    Testing has been completed.  What do you think of the image quality and camera positioning?

    Mounting work will continue this week, Expect radio works to be completed next weekend. This will provide a 30 Megabit/sec connection to the site and access to the camera network from Melbourne Wireless.

    @Michelle12 who is the team leader on the camera systems is happy with the results.  I will complete the engineering works as mentioned next weekend with some help.

    When completed we will move to the next site as we have 3 to complete before it gets too cold for winter.

    The camera is positioned well but maybe move it to the north so it can cover the station?
    Quality is fantastic but at night it looks a bit out of contrast.
    Live video might too be a plus.

    @bevans will this new setup cover trains which do not enter the Melbourne yards?  is this the idea?

    Looking at the camera position on google shows the location will also capture trains between the North East line and the Geelong line as they travel on SG via the triangle and BG via the branch at Sunshine. ALL SG traffic to and from the north whether they enter Melbourne or they do not. We should also see trip trains from the docks to McIntyre Loop and the reverse.

    On the Bendigo Line should also get the Denniliquin Goods and Grain and other goods movements.  Swan Hill Passenger.

    The images look excellent and very very clear. If you zoom you can read the DMU numbers on the VLocity units. Cant do this at Bunbury Steet. That should get a few people excited.  You can also read the spark numbers.

    Well done you guys,  Brilliant work.

    I have noticed today it is not possible to view any camera images.  I receive an error.

    Congratulations to @Michelle12 and the team.  You guys produce some brilliant work.  The Albion railcam looks so promising. the photos are so clear and distance to the track is short.

    Cannot wait for this to be live.

    These collective photos are clearer than Bunbury Street.

    We all appreciate the support we are receiving for this project.  As mentioned I expect to close this out over this coming weekend. There is some work to do and some further radio testing but it should all come together by Saturday evening.  Stay tuned, we will be making further announcements about this site and the additional camera coverage in due course.

    I view of this feedback I make the following comments:

    Camera Positioning

    It is not really possible to cover the station from that position in the building.  There are a range of large trees out to the left which block out any view of the Albion station from that position. See test shots at the start of this thread. To cover the railway station is possible but would require a camera at the north western end of the building and probably one mounted on the the roof.  The distance is quite short to the station which is good as this would provide max detail.

    Installing a camera here would also require a long Ethernet run (perhaps longer than 80 metres which is the max. for 100meg) so would require some planning. I would need to give this some thought and make some measurements. This is possible but is currently outside of project scope for the first release.

    We are looking at placing a camera on the roof at the North Eastern corner being A PTZ model.  As mentioned in the other thread the idea is that Railpage members could take control of the camera and either look UP toward Sunshine or DOWN to Albion.  Being a Zoom model it would be good enough to view Sunshine Station quite well.  

    The view from the eastern end of the building is very clear and unobstructed all the way along the track to Sunshine.  This view also covers the city in the distance.

    Camera Tuning

    The Camera needs some tuning which will happen once we are 100% happy with the angle and scope of light changes.  I expect @Michelle12 and others will look at this over the coming week.

    I think this camera may have a variable shutter speed if you like.

    Live Feed

    I am hoping to have the live feed up and running this weekend.  Once the Melbourne Wireless connection is completed in terms of routing we will have a URL to grab images so Railpage can provide these via the Railcam module which currently exists.  This will be provided.  The line here is very busy so there is plenty of action to see.

    Regarding the location Albion would be the busiest on the network of cameras so live viewing would make sense.

    The cameras are a few hundred dollars each and the cheapest part of the exercise.  When you add additional hardware in radio systems, a router, a comms cabinet, fitting, testing, cabling, backhaul installation , labour, roof works, power make ready, site make ready and work back at HQ for the images it is not a cheap exercise.
