Dare I ask - but does anyone know the situation in regard to the RMS at Paterson?

It may have left Melbourne but it certainly wont be moving north of Newcastle I would say for at least a week. I can see container traffic being transhipped to road transport (and vis-versa) in Sydney for the immediate future.

T typed RMS Paterson into google, and wonder of wonders an answer appeared, now I could tell you  the answer, but perhaps if you type it into a search engine you will get the same sense of achievement that I did?

Try it, you might like it.

To quote an old saying, "one picture is worth a thousand words".
After watching this footage I think it is safe to assume it will take nearly a week to get things moving again.

Oh I did, and the first result was the one in question, but there has been no update since April 6.

I thought that the answer would have been obvious, but for those not familiar - The Rail Motor Society - they have a number of Rail Motors based at Paterson.

true, I knew what you meant, my response was more designed to have X31 use a search engine rather than asking for an answer, its my battle against the laziness of the Y generation.

A wasted battle I would say - surely acronyms are the height of laziness.

The St James Rail Southern Aurora tour that on Saturday was in Yarrawonga (Victoria) and was then eventually to visit the NSW north coast has been altered to operate via Lithgow, Orange, Dubbo, Binnaway and Werris Creek to Armidale (NSW), a railway that thankfully remains open all the way.

The St James Rail Facebook page has a good photo of locals greeting the train at Yarrawonga.

Probably as close trains are going to get to the North Coast for the time being.

Where is the line closed from in the North?  Down to where?

There were apparently two XPT sets "trapped" north of the damaged sections and they are currently operating between Brisbane/Taree and Casino/Taree with buses to/from Taree to Sydney (the Grafton XPT has been totally replaced by bus). My understanding is the main damage is between Maitland and Dungog with some more damage a little further north at Stroud Road.

if it is anything like the ARTC video above there is a lot of work to do with some sections being bridges completely gone!

The RMS question was a fair one.  Just tried google and it is impossible to work out what it was from just those 3 letters.

Yes, upon reflection, RMS can be a number of things, even locally (the NSW Roads and Maritime Services is one). Next time I will spell out anything remotely off topic longhand and to hell with the acronyms.

Anyway, as they say, no news is good news, and I hope that is the case in that the Rail Motor Society at Paterson has been spared any damage. Their own website   http://www.railmotorsociety.org.au/   has been silent on the matter too.

The Newcastle Herald reports that coal traffic may run, along the Hunter Line, as early as tomorrow.
I dare say it will be another 3 to 4 weeks ..if not more,, for the North Coast Line (between Telarah and Taree).

Coalies running earlier today (29/04) with Black Caviar seen heading a PN service into Kooragang Island around 6pm.

All 5 relief roads at Hexham were full (2 x PN, 2 x QR and 1 x XRN) when I left Newcastle for Sydney last Wednesday at 12pm. All 5 roads were vacant by the time I returned at 7am this morning so obviously started moving very early.

Local commuter services running to a reduced service, not sure how restricted though.

NSW and South east Queensland are expecting yet another extreme weather event over the next few days with around 400mm of rain expected.
