An active line still passes through the site of this closed station.
Back in the eighties, it was proposed that the station become the terminus of the line. Traffic to or from this location had been absent for years, but at the time of the closure proposal, newly obtained container traffic was being handled at the site, and a few bitumen tankers were also unloaded there.
This traffic only lasted a couple of years, and eventually, a new terminus was selected, further down the line. The line remains open for grain only. The line on which this station was situated has been truncated twice. There are two operating grain loading facilities beyond this point. One of the grain loading locations is situated between this station and the next one down the line.

Back in the eighties, Kooloonong was the truncated terminus of the Yungera line. Due to low traffic and poor track condition, the line was further truncated to Piangil before having services suspended beyond Swan Hill. For some reason, Woorinen was where the 80lb rail ran out, and there was some talk about keeping that part of the line open. Fortunately common sense prevailed and the line was relaid all the way to Piangil. Grain from Balranald was railed via Piangil after that line closed. Shortly after the reopening to Piangil, grain stored in the old Woorinen winery was loaded into containers at the Woorinen siding.
