Where am I Victoria? - Non Cryptic - #3

  raudteejaam Junior Train Controller

Yep, I'll pay that. I was thinking of Mirboo North in particular.

I am a long closed branchline terminus that still sees trains run past my platform.

Both of those stations mentioned were junction points and * not * termini.

Keep trying, your guesses were good but lacked one point.

Maldon?

Maldon was closed for a while but is now part of the Victorian system. This teminus station has had no trains run through from the rest of the system since closure about 1980.

Wangaratta. Whitfield line's terminus and not a junction due to a 2 foot, 9 inch difference in gauges!

Very inventive, Valvegear but not the one.

The trains going past the platform are not broad gauge like the original ones were.

(Sorry about not posting but Railpage has refused to work for me for over a week)

Warracknabeal ?
  Rodo Chief Commissioner

Location: Southern Riverina
Warracknabeal is certainly not long closed, only out of use for a short period.
This line was closed and lifted but later rails were relaid to a much narrower gauge in the station yard.

I wonder if it's Queenscliff.
  Rodo Chief Commissioner

Location: Southern Riverina
Actually Queenscliff  does meet the qualifications except that the new gauge is narrower.

Think NE. Victoria and a timber tramway.

Alexandra springs immediately to mind from your clue.

At last Valvegear has cracked it. Alexandra has a 2 foot gauge rail system about its station environs.

Please post away. >>>>

Thanks Rodo.

I was a terminus station; then I wasn't; then I was again.

Rather a lot like that, I will start with Myrtleford as it is familiar.

Not Myrtleford.

I was a terminus station; then I wasn't; then I was again.
I was then somewhat under utilised, and subsequently rose again.

Bairnsdale was a terminus until the later Orbost extension. Then it was a terminus again and lost its passenger services then all else but regained limited log traffic. Eventually a 3 times daily passenger service returned but no more freight as far as I am aware.

That appears to roughly conform.

I think it conforms rather well, because Bairnsdale is the one I had in mind.

Take it away, Rodo.

The terminus on a line closed very early. (circa 1950)

A line that was never particularly busy but it did haul potatoes and other farm produce as well as timber, gravel, coal and passengers at times.

Where am I ?

Going with the potato clue, I'll go with Thorpdale.

Not too bad a guess, Rusty Rick.

Thorpdale never hauled coal, although there is some not far away. This one is in a different part of the state, it was closed earlier than Thorpdale which lasted until about 1960.

Wensleydale rings a bell for some reason.

Wensleydale is the one, Valvegear.
