Railpage Photo Competition

Ideas: Railpage Photo Competition

I will kick this off.  As discussed in the developer forum a photo competition module would be a fantastic addition to the site.

After reading again the threads and the thread on the ability to upload an image to the site here are my thoughts:

Users can submit only 1 image per month for the competition.

The monthly competition has a theme.  this could be heritage month, main line, coal etc.

Once a user has submitted their image which must be on the railpage DAMS the image is then tagged as entered.

A user cannot submit the same image for a comp more than once every 6 months.

There is an RSS feed for the monthly competition which is syndicated to the internet.  probably the facebook page Railpage has and maybe twitter

users who enter the competition are advised by notification of other users submissions. This is by way of email announcement.

Submissions are open for the month with voting starrting at the commencement of the month and ending on the last day of the month.

Once images are entered voting for images commences.  As more photos are entered more images to vote on.  this will ensure users get their images in early.

Users who submit into the competition enter a league table. This league table is an ongoing table which lists the most voted images in the competition across all months.

users cannot see the number of votes per image until the end of the monthly voting and the winner announced.

users cannot vote on their own image.

Another great feature would be the ability to enter a photo from the gallery (the photos that change on the front page which are viewable in the gallery) as a process of clicking and nominating the photo for a comp.

If we can have more than one comp running A gallery photocomp for example entries could be open for two months and users could select form the gallery images.

For example.  This image https://www.railpage.com.au/image?provider=flickr&photo_id=16691041290 could have link on the left allowing it to be entered into a comp.

Just an idea.

This will be really good to use when it is ready.  Reading the thread in detail it will be even better if you can place images onto the competition without using bloody flickr.

At release you will be able to use Flickr or SmugMug. Other providers will be supported in the future.

Could we please provide a link to enter a gallery photo into a photo competition?  It seems appropriate the photo comp be able to enter photos when viewing all the wonderful images coming into the Railpage group on flickr.

What do you think?

No. You submit your own photo, and your own photo is hosted (at this point) elsewhere. Submit via that external host.

What you're suggesting makes it exceptionally easy for Joe Bloggs to submit Jane Doe's photo as their own into the competition.

Noticed there are submissions for August 2015 which are now closed.  Voting has opened and I have cast a vote or two.

Good photos all of 'em.

Good work also on the system.  It is really well designed.
