Where am I Victoria? - Non Cryptic - #3

A station that has only a lonely short platform and a dead end siding.

The dead end siding has previously been a crossing loop but the up end points were removed after a derailment.
In my younger days I can vaguely remember a small station building and some kind of goods siding but it appears to have never had any grain bunker, unlike some other nearby stations .

This station is served by a gravel road running south from a secondary main road that runs through the remains of a village that consists of a church and a few scattered houses. This appears to have definitely been more of a place when gold was to be found thereabouts.

On the narrow bitumen road there is a V/line bus stop to substitute for the passenger trains that no longer serve the nearby station. I doubt if the bus stops at this location more than once in a blue moon.

What is the matter with all you once keen searchers. The information I have provided uniquely identifies this place. I would provide even a few more hints if somebody had a go.

I've done very well working out where it can't be!

Now I'll have  very tentative shot at Bullarto.

A fair guess, Valvegear.

It does very vaguely fit bits of the profile. The minor road at Bullarto station is only a very short run from the V/line bus stop on what is a very busy and wide major road compared with the one at my location. This station remnant must be closer to 1 km from the bus stop which would receive a lot less patronage than Bullarto, a location that has more population and also a fair bit of tourism enhanced by its railway.

Bullarto station is served by a tourist passenger rail motor service, these days my station has only a reasonable amount of freight trains running through. I would presume that the siding could still be used for crossings or perway vehicles but the rusty rails showed no obvious sign of this when I was there 9 months ago.

You are heading in the right direction from Melbourne but must go about the same distance further out. Bullarto has no grain bunkers nearer than Moolort and this location is well beyond there.

Keep up the good work.

Nope - too good for me. I can't find anything that fits all the clues.

The passenger service that last ran through there years ago was one that operated overnight. I think that the up and down services crossed there.

The daily bus service is a substitute for an earlier rail motor service.

I can think of quite a few that have had 2 names. Heathcote/Kilmore  Junction, for instance.

I think that Bagshot may have started out as a ballast siding, had a station once and now it has disappeared with trains still thundering through. I think it may have had other names.

A second track was opened on the NE. line in 1962, Violet Town had a sawmill on its outskirts when I was a lad. Probably had at least one other name too.

Don't know if it had any other names, but perhaps Winton?
