I have been searching for Kadee #5 Couplers for N Scale but Micro trains keeps popping up and Kadee for HO. Are these by the same company but just a different name?

Kadee make many couplers and other products aimed at the HO thru G scale markets. They have no N scale couplers.

To further Poath Junction's repl, Micro-Trains is the firm your looking for when going to N-scale. IIRC the 2 companies were originally one, but split later on.

Thanks guys. I read a bit more into the microtrains couplers and sounds like they work just the same as Kadee being magnetic.
Are these a little more difficult to swap that HO or just mi re fiddly being smaller?

I am really suprised that Kadee hasn't done N Scale I am sure there is a nice big slice of the market for them.

Kadee is unable to supply the HO scale market with enough couplers (hence all those clone types from China), they're in no position to try expanding into yet another market.

The two brothers split the KaDee company into the N scale company and the bigger scales coupler company so that probably included an agreement stopping KaDee from doing couplers for smaller scales.

Thanks guys. I read a bit more into the microtrains couplers and sounds like they work just the same as Kadee being magnetic.Depends on how you are converting them. If your like me, and insist on body mounting them, then it can be tricky. You'll probably need some styrene strip in order to get the coupler mounting hight correct. If your ok with bogie mounted couplings (only an issue with lot's of shunting, and in some wagon lengths) then just swap the original bogies for Micro Trains ones.

The only really fiddly part is assembling the couplings if you purchase bulk packs.

Keith and Dale Edwards started Kadee couplers that is were the name stems from and as has been stated the company was split into two with Microtrains being created for N scale modellers exclusively later. One brother was into N scale and the other was into HO and larger. But at one time Kadee did make N scale couplers under their Microtrains line until the company was split into two separate companies! Both now are fully separated companies independent of one another!
