Lovely to see an A2 steaming again - takes me back to my childhood days.

Ahhh! - nostalgia; it just ain't what it used to be!

Do we know if the loco is to remain in the grey or will he livery change to complete the restoration?
According to several people at Steamrail it's going in all black.
Hopefully without the red buffer beam but congratulations and thanks to all concerned.
YM-Mundrabilla

Hopefully people will appreciate A2 986 no matter what colour the locomotive is in...
  Carnot Chief Commissioner

Accolades to all who have resurrected the A2 locomotive.  Such a significant piece of our rail heritage is back where she belongs - the mainline Smile

Amazing to think that for over 40 years the A2 was the primary mainline passenger loco in this state.

Any special 100th birthday celebrations on Nov 18?

Our next major milestone has been reached!

Nearly 5 months ago A2 986 operated for the first time under its own power, yesterday it reached the mainline!

A2 986 began mainline testing on Sunday 25th October with a series of trips between Newport and Sunshine. This allowed for testing at low speed in a controlled environment. Some adjustments have been found to fix at a later date though the overall testing was a success.

A T class diesel (no. 395) was used to provide a modest load for A2 986, to provide a train to base radio for communication and to help with driver training of V/Line crews on the goods only railway line to Sunshine.

We thank V/Line and the RTBU Victoria for their assistance in utilising this testing for driver training.

Not long to go now folks!

Question without notice - will the A2 be fitted with the full length smoke deflectors which they used to carry?

I hope so.....

The question of smoke deflectors is a contentious one, but I have it on authority that it will run without deflectors. To ensure all the relevant parties are appeased, it will also be painted in apple green, and re-numbered 4472.

It will also run with a purple standard gauge tender.

It will be great to see it run even yellow with red spots.................

What is left to complete before a run with some carriages behind can be considered ?

It sure is as we have not seen any real steam action for a while. 3801 does visit from time to time.

Could it be possible to organise a tour to tocumwal which is accessible from Albury.

At the risk of being tarred, feathered, locked in the stocks and rotten vegetables thrown at me, it could be standardised! Wink
