Why are 82 class locomotives being used in Victoria?

8258 was in Dimboola but returned to Melbourne last night.  Are there other 82 class locomotives being used on SG in the state?

They're looking at using them on MC2/CM3 freights, and possibly to replace the DL's. So far 8220 and 8254 have ran on MC2/CM3, with 8254 doing a trial run as lead unit not long before Christmas. 8224's currently at Dynon as well.

BTW, it was 8232 in Dimboola, as 8258's on the Leigh Creek Coalie.

8232 was 2nd on PN 6CM3 Friday arvo from Griffith to Melbourne so they are slowly adding more to the list as the months go by.

I stumbled upon this train as I was heading to Griffith I looked to my left and could just make out the light from the lead loco

Would be great if PN trialled a Melbourne-Adelaide intermodal with triple 82's one of these days...

They'd be better off hiring a trio of CD's from Chicago if that's your thinking...At least they'd still have the sectional running times...Oh wait....Rolling Eyes

PN couldn't care less about a gunzel with a camera.

There's a couple of PN-operated trains in SA that don't need the 'traditional' power, for example the Broken Hill-Port Pirie ore & the Overland only require a loco of 3,000hp.

What a dopey reply. PN will have new owners shortly, so such comments are irrelevant.

PN is what it mis due to management at parramatta and under performing mess lacking the will to win business and even retain business.

Imagine is that approach to management were found in hospitals or banking.

Confirmed these 2 were on 5CM3 tonight departing Junee at 8:10pm Thursday and captured video at Harefield at 8:19pm although curiously the 82s were leading

Never seen the 82s lead on *CM3 from Griffith to Junee but Junee does have a triangle so they could have turned them there

Why would they not use the 82s to lead from Griffith to Junee if they lead them from Junee to Melbourne ?

Could it be a driver training issue (unlikely) as one 82 has been seen leading from Griffith to Leeton before it was turned on the triangle or could it be driver preference.

NR88 (leading), 8220, NR67 on 5MC2 Thursday evening departed Junee for Griffith at 10.27pm arrived Leeton 2.30am Friday, this triple was turned on the triangle at Leeton to have NR67 lead to Griffith from Leeton, NR88 will lead 6CM3 Friday to Junee, once again why the swap-a-roo.
