ARS secret area

Hello Everyone;
Recently when i was traversing the ARS marble grand concourse that runs between the north terrace stairs and the river torrens entry, to get to the grange train, i noticed some cleaners walk through a frozen glass clad sliding door that faces in the opposite direction to the ticket barriers. When the door opened i glimpsed a very long wide and well lit passage running for eons underneath the casino and towards king william street.

I was wondering what is hidden under there? Is it just cleaners equipment? Is it offices? Is it training facilities for new drivers? Is it another concourse with 9 platforms in the negative direction for a planned eastern suburbs network? Very Happy

Be careful....they are watching this thread......

Seriously though, and knowing nothing about the station, id suspect its an old area of the station used for what you suggest.

Is the casino still moving out at some stage in the future or have they changed their minds about that?

Take a ride on Street View down Station Place as it descends to the festival centre and look to the left there is a small car parking area there which always has a number of police vehicles parked there. Shocked

Is it true the area has heat and chemical detectors similar to that deployed at area 51?

Highly classified area with extreme security to look after all the cash that has passed through that area over the years!

"all the cash"! What cash? It would make less than a NSW pokies palace, such as the Rooty Hills or Tweed Heads RSL.

Haha. There's a pun in there Hendo. Only the old timers will get it.

Is that the Islington Works Officers train that took the works payroll out to Islington on every second Thursday, with very minimal security??

I think we should give Heath a little more time before one of us old timers fills in the blanks.

If my memory serves me OK that opening used to be where the luggage trolleys came out in the days when luggage was deposited at street level on Station Road. The parcel drop off and collection was at concourse level at the northern end.
I use to sometime take a "short cut" through that tunnel on the way to Uni. Provided you walked briskly (but no too hurried) and looked like you were meant to be there, nobody challenged you. (always a good trick)

Are they still planning to remodel and put a supermarket in there somewhere (a la Southern Cross Station and Melbourne Central)? It would probably do really well if the ones in Melbourne are anything to go by. Truck access to a loading dock might be tricky though.

I have been in that tunnel and it is used or part of it is used by the Police Transit Squad at ARS. So do something foolish and you can have a close look at it. I was stopped in a drug blitz when a sniffer dog reacted to my bag and was taken there. After a search and a check I was allowed to leave. The police where baffled as to why the dog reacted to just the bag though I even opened it up and took everything out but the dog still reacted to the bag. The police where quite good about it and  said it may have been something used in the manufacture of the bag that made the dog react. Not a good way to find out what is in the tunnel though. This was only the front bit of it though and I did not go or see further down the tunnel! Does that answer your question Heath Loxton!

Drugs dogs are smart, it didn't indicate on you because your bag smelt, it most likely indicated on you because it's read some of your RP posts.

So what else is in that area besides the Police transit division?
