Ebay continues to provide entertainment and this certainly got a laugh. Still, one person's junk is another's...

You should read the old thread with a similar name

EDIT:  Have deleted the unneeded posts  complaining that the post should be locked. As a moderator I do not need others to tell me what to do.  And obviously I have determined to let the thread  be reborn, as the old thread was many pages back, thus the poster would not realise the topic was covered before.  Long time readers know. So this thread is effectively the third thread.   Enough said me thinks.

Hi fellow RailPagers,

Wow, is this made of gold (not brass), or are some banned substances secreted away in it's interior?

There are some real goats on eBay. There is a Australian hobby shop trying to flog off some Bachman N scale USA outline cars at up to $40 each when there are any number of much better quality items for sale at half that price Don't sellers examine what is already for sale and prices before offering their over priced lower quality items.

As for HO brass there is a well known hobby shop in Parramatta that has had the same NSW brass items for sale for ages at outrageous prices. From personal experience brass has been a very bad investment with prices crashing with the advent of highly detailed plastic, both here and in the USA.

I wonder if they forgot the decimal place when entering prices. Everything makes a lot more sense if it's shifted right two places.

Looks like it, since both are now ended because of an error in the listing.
Although I would have ended them for crimes against typography.

I thought along similar lines but I would have moved the decimal point two places to the left!

Yes, indeed!

Didn't even cross my mind that my comment would be read that way by most people. I was thinking if the price was shifted to the right... which is, as you say, moving the decimal point two places to the left!

How do you account for the over the top postage costs, which way does the decimal point go there?

Ted,

I don't know for sure, but it looks as though postage costs are calculated from the item price (in part?).

Can someone clarify how the postage price is calculated?

Happy posting,

John

PS; Move the decimal point for postage two positions to the left also!
PPS; Would anyone have been silly (stupid) enough to bid at these prices anyway?
PPPS; If no bids --> no postage.
PPPPS; Maybe the postage price was the "error" in the listing (it was too low).

The listing for the 2 x 44s has been withdrawn due to an error in the listing. Perhaps he meant cents not dollars.

Some goose is still trying to sell a number of Railpower N scale items on eBay for outrageous prices. Not a bad try for items from a defunct manufacturer which has been taken over by MRC, and then only the HO scale items and which I believe are not selling well.

I've seen some amazing weathering done by some very talented modellers at model railway clubs and shows over the years, however if this "professional" did this sort of weathering job to any of my models, I'd be asking for a new model, and my money back.

That looks like weathering for the incorrect locomotive type and what I did to the body of my Lima 44cl with graphite powder and glow-in-the-dark ink when I was younger. Fortunately, most of it wore off.

Hi,

Our prices are reflected on our buy price and operating costs. I am guessing we just got a "bad deal" in purchasing this magazine and according to your advice. It will sell one day, but by sounds of it, could take a little while.

Thank you for letting me know, we will research series like these and next time try to avoid buying for such a price.

Best Regards,
