Looks like a Phase 1B Unlettered job would be just the thing for a Commonwealth Railways CB car, and pretty good (albeit a bit long and wide) for the NSWGR 1100 cars.
See http://www.rapidotrains.com/rdcus.htmlNot that I am a NSW modeller but the Athearn RDC's should be a good fit apart lengthwise from the end window size for an 1100 and the radiator length for the trailer. The fluting on the ends and sides is easily removed as I have done that on two Canadian National RDC's I have modified ...

In stock now!Well in fairness to the Gurus.... they tend to be only Gurus with respect to NSW railways....
Surprised its arrival has been missed by the gurus on Railpage.
The owner of Notch 8 Precision Models who I believe are the Australian distributors for Rapido is active on some of the Facebook groups. In stock now!

I'd argue it wasn't too well advertised here!
I've been following Rapido's products for a while and had no idea that the CR version had been taken up by someone.
It could not have been recorded from the Budd car at the NRM as it does not even work and has been sitting static at the NRM ever since it was delivered to them. It has never been started that I know of and I doubt it would be capable of starting it now!In stock now!Well in fairness to the Gurus.... they tend to be only Gurus with respect to NSW railways....

Through significant lobby activity by an individual in South Australia, has convinced Rapido to do the CR Budd Railcars. Check out Rapido's website: http://rapidotrains.com/ho-scale-absolute-rdc-project/
The CR Budds look terrific! Come with ESU sound as well, recorded from the Budd at the National Railway Museum (apparently). The detail is verrrry impressive and Rapido also have an excellent reputation. I'm sure that they will be awesome models. Only 45 models for each road number.
Pity I've converted two Proto 1000 RDCs into CR Budds already.....![]()

The sound for the Budd cars was indeed taken from the prototype but the prototype was in America. All the Budd Cars had the same GM motors in them when built so the sound is from an American running one, one point of interest though is that CB3 was fitted with Rolls Royce motors instead of GM's at one time. It was later fitted with GM's again when AN upgraded them I think!

The Rapido web page clearly states for the CR Budds, measured from the prototype and "factory fitted with ESU Loksound with sound measured from the prototype".
Irrespective, I'm certain that they will be excellent models. The detail is amazing.
The is an interesting YouTube video of the recording session and the laser measuring of the prototype on the Rapido Facebook page that is well worth a look.

The Comrails Budd Cars are stock standard American cars even in the loading gauge. As CR did not have tunnels or many bridges it did not matter back then when they were ordered.
