Hi Everyone,

Apparently there used to be a train that was dubbed The Hogwarts Express located in Perth. Does anyone have any details of this train including the date that it ceased operation?

According to Hotham Valley Tourist Railway's website they ran a "Wizards Express" on 8th june 2002 from Fremantle to Pinjarra.

Seems it ran during 2002, with another train "Witches Express" (Diesel Hauled) during the summer season 2002/2003

The later versions of the city circle steam tours were also called the Wizards Express from what I recall. They would run from Perth east to Guildford, then around the freight lines through Forrestfield to Fremantle, then back into Perth station. This hasn't run since the early 2000's though. They used to be hauled by the Dd class from ARHS in the earlier days.

Id say the use of the word Hogwarts might attract some attention from the legal reps of JK Rowling!

Just like "Thomas" Events, the use of any "Harry Potter" names attracts a large licencing fee!
(It ain't the say of JK Rowling's legal eagles, it's the movie company that own the names)

I believe it was roundly 2004? when we stopped operating this service?

Of course all mainline running stopped January 2006 when insurance/compliance and other factors rendered those services sadly untenable.

It was a great idea at the time which supported the railway with publicity operating out of Fremantle and Perth, and exposing the railway to the younger generations.

Pm706 still rests in Pinjarra in "Wizards Red" paint Smile
