How much use does Torrens Park get out of peak hours? Both office and school hours. Scotch College must account for a goodly number of passengers.Hopefully they are preparing to remove the shelter and install it at a more deserving location which has higher patronage. There would have to be hundreds of bus stops around the network which have far higher patronage and currently no shelter.A step back in time. Install the train stop indicators that used to be on the Hills Line at places like Pinera and Glenalta.
I also wonder whether efficiency gains could be made by trialling the operation of Torrens Park as a request stop, where passengers wishing to alight advise the driver using the intercom and passengers wishing to board would hail the train like they do at tram and bus stops. Many trains would consequently be able to go through at around 25 km/h rather than stopping completely, which would help reduce operating costs and allow many late trains to make up just enough time to keep the delays from spiralling out of control.
Torrens Park does get a bit of use, I have seen many pax leaving or going to the station when waiting at the adjacent traffic lights.
Drove through the South Road overpass worksite today and the main rail overpass span has been lifted into place, very impressive. As someone said earlier the roadway underneath is only temporary and passes under the bridge on an angle. The massive cranes are still on site so there are more spans to be lifted into place (obviously).The span in place crosses what will finally become the eastern service road. The remaining two spans will cross the main trenched road and the western service road and are scheduled to be lifted during this week. Both the service roads have to dive to provide sufficient clearance under the bridge. Excavation of the rail formation and land to the south for the eastern service road only started last Tuesday evening.
Strangely the traffic lights at the Park Tc level crossing were turned off with Dot matrix signs saying the rail line was closedThere is currently no need for them to be active, as the pedestrian/cycle crossing parallel to the rail line is closed courtesy of the northern side footpath, northern side pedestrian maze and Outer Harbor Greenway all being closed.
Just 4 days now to the whole line being reopened we hope anyway. One does hope that the new South Road rail bridge lasts a bit longer in one piece than the tram overpass at 7 years old that is crumbling in places!Just a slight difference between the two bridges David Peters, Tram overpass is prestressed concrete beams whilst Train bridge is steel spans
...Each tram track is on a concrete deck which rigidly binds together a pair of support beams, whereas the cycleway sits atop a single beam.
Interestingly it's only the cycleway beam that is a problem, trams continue to run without problems over the bridge.
Didn't think this warranted a new thread. But anyway, what happened to the seats in the waiting area in Adelaide station? Were these seen as some kind of 'disturbance' and hence removed?It could be a counter-terrorism related thing like removing the bins. After all South Australia is such a hotbed of terrorist activity...
