The checks suggested above might keep the idiots out. Real names, IDs such as drivers licence and personal pin for entry. Kicking in some $ via a credit card for registration might also bring some sanity to users too.
Why not insist on a Federal Government Security Clearance;
Negative Vetting, the old "secret" clearance should do...
At least you wouldn't be subject to suspicion of terrorist activities.

Why do you see that as a bad thing or are you another conspiriousy person who fears the so called Big Brother

I had to go through Full police and working with children checks to join the RFS i had no problem with my background being checked at all

I'm not that subtle...

Why would I suggest a requirement that I don't already meet...

Basically. My first thought was "Can I have access to the Railpage datacenter as well? I mean, you've got my license!"

I'll just put it here again incase someone doesn't have it... If you live in Sydney this will still show freight in the suburban area.

It only shows some of the freight trains in in the Sydney Trains area at a given time. Many do not show up at all. Basically its the ones that slip through the "filtering" process. Still, if you're looking for a particular train that you think is running, you may be lucky to see it appear somewhere for a while and thus are able to confirm it is running and then able to predict when it will be passing a particular location. I was able to do this with BM9 the other day. It showed up for a few minutes near Cardiff which was enough information to be able to determine that it was actually running and when it would be through Hawkesbury River. This was on one of those really hot days and I was not motivated enough to go and wait in the heat in the hope that it was coming, but being able to confirm that it was actually on the way made all the difference.

I presume one of them was 4BM9.

If it makes you feel any better I sat at Tallong for a good while expecting it to follow the midday Explorer but no sign.

So much for the clowns on here who think you just look at the Master Train Plan or a signal and all will be revealed.  It ain't so.

I suspect that IF there is any negotiation going on concerning Radar it is being done in the background by people of good faith and credibility and we will hear the results in good time and not before.

But what did you see?

Did PS6 run?

You should have seen at least one empty and one loaded PN grain.

Were you there early enough for the MB trains?

Did MW2 follow ST24 aound 1700?

Report elsewhere of single loco on the BM9 over Menangle Bridge and since no turning facilities at Bromelton QLD, maybe a loco failure which might explain its non arrival at expected time?

I'm guessing train spotting never occurred prior to the radar?

These days I rarely just go and sit around all day waiting to see what turns up although it does happen.  I tend to go looking for something unusual on a targeted basis to the extent this is possible.

In recent times this has been #BM9 and it was the case yesterday.  According to the Master Train Plan it comes out of Macarthur behind the down midday Explorer and the local Endeavour which follows it.  Past experience has shown that this is the case but you can never rely on it.

As such I arrived at Tallong in time to see the Explorer go through about 14.30 and then settled in to wait/  That is usually productive as there is sometimes a bit of a cavalcade follows the Explorer out of Moss Vale although again you cannot rely on it.

Yesterday there was an UP Qube grain train which virtually passed the Explorer at Tallong followed over a period by three quarry trains, two of which I assumed came out of Medway Junct and the other from Lynwood.

On the DOWN there was, in round figures, zero for a bit over two hours at which point I gave it away.  At that point that Murphy character stuck his oar in as just as I got into the car an empty grain train came through hauled by a pair of 82s.

I got a garbled report about an SCT train at Leightonfield with some suggestion of problems with in-line fuelling.

That shouldn't have required removing a locomotive...

Eyeballs and a bit of co-operation can work wonders, if we dare to share!

SCT008 is solo on 5BM9 today, lightly loaded (tank + 16 vans) and is probably around Chullora by now.

Was in Wagga Thursday to drop someone at hospital and thought I would go watch the "lights" for any rail action between Wagga and Bethungra loop.

Missed the QUBE service into Harefield it had just arrived at 11.00am - ish
Missed it again to Junee around 3pm
Missed it again back to Harefield

Nothing nada zip zilch for several hours, got sick of looking and headed back to Wagga, lo and behold I was stuck in a convoy of vehicles near road works and a PacNat inter-modal including empty coil wagons with 5 loco's went through.

Think it was 3 NRs, 1 AN and 8202 in pacNat scheme damn it Rolling Eyes very fruitless day in 38°C weather ...

I miss radar with its all seeing spectacles Crying or Very sad

Sounds like MW2...

Looked a bit like that on New Year's Day at Goulburn, but the 82 was in overall blue....

Whilst the talk here is using it for "train spotting" which is great, I also thoroughly enjoyed simply scanning the country as a whole and getting a real time appreciation of what movements are occurring all over the network.  In the early start up of SCT's Brisbane service it was great tracking their services to see how they were going compared to schedule and also to witness them crossing on the run in NSW.

I also watched one evening the aftermath of some event that had impacted train operations in the Adelaide Hills and the bank up of trains start to sort themselves out.    Another experience which I've witnessed in the field years before but which you could see play out on RADAR is the "parade" of freighters heading west on the Trans Line travelling relatively close together.

It's something that really enriched the hobby!!!

You basically cannot.

It used a public feed from the ARTC's systems which they turned off in February for reasons of their own which it appears had little to do with Railpage Radar itself.

It was not just Radar which lost the feed,  there was at least one other system which also worked off it which is also kaput!

At this stage I very much doubt we will see it back.

That is not intended to start another pointless rumour fest!
