Are 4001 and 4701 both going to Steamfest, or have I been sucked in by a misprint?
Just noticed........3016 will be running shuttles from Maitland to the up refuge (dead end) opposite the (former) Hanbury Junction signal box and back, presumably to provide numerous short trips behind a steam loco for the many (e.g. with small children) who don't want to over-commit their time.
3016 is going to Steamfest too (under a hire agreement with THNSW - now confirmed in writing).
So a potential misnomer with only two steamers (3642 and 5917) has become somewhat more respectable with a third loco to be in attendance.
Surely the shuttles should run down to Hamilton ? Should of left the country end crossover in, Hamilton's re signalling needed more thought. The amount of thought that should have gone into the interim Newcastle truncation arrangements may be a matter for another thread. But with the Steamfest weekend augmented with additional Hunter / Endeavour services running into a Hamilton layout that struggles to cope adequately with the weekday timetable, I could understand a desire not to overload the place.
Recent news, 5917 will not finish repairs in time for Steamfest. So Steamfest is back to a misnomer with only two steam engines attending,And the original poster's question is thereby answered: 4490 and 4520 will be the diesels on top and tail duty on Sat and Sun.
Can someone point me in the direction of timetables for Friday transfers to Maitland and for return on Monday pleaseartc.com.au
