It's a pity the event wasn't one day earlier as it would mean a worthwhile Westlander visit to Toowoomba to enjoy the celebrations and take the Westlander down the range to Roma Street the next morning.

I could catch the Westie from Dalby to Toowoomba that morning and catch a bus back in the afternoon. But I'll drive...
Of course passengers from the east and south can come and go on the Steam trains.

I wonder if they operate 'child free' cars on those steam specials these days

Four hours is a form of torture with screaming kids Question

I didn't see Mr 4405 but I followed SDSR from Nobby to Tmba, saw the Brisbane train arrive, spoke with the Munro Mill tramway display at the station. Went home to recharge camera and self then followed SDSR from Tmba to Clifton.

Nice pictures @GrahamH. Minor nitpick: SDSR now have 3 C17s and you refer to 971 as "their C17". Admittedly 971 is the only running one. The other two are 812 & 935 IIRC. Smile

GrahamH,
Will probably be chasing the Mothers day train if you're around that day.

Graham4405,
935 was still at Rosewood when I looked in February. Is it for parts?

I don't know if 935 has been moved as yet, but it has been "sold" to SDSR for the nominal sum of $1. I believe SDSR are hoping to use 935s boiler on 812 and use other parts as required for both 971 and 812.

As an aside, I believe the line to Dalby will be 150 years old next April. Will the "Festival of Rail" come to Dalby??

Dalby would be a manageable run starting from Toowoomba... an air-conditioned railmotor from Drayton might be a winner, especially in summer.

935 has been weathering for a while now, but so was 971 and look at her now! I'd heard that 812s boiler was needing replacement,  presumably the thinking is that 935's can be repaired?

Videos are up for the Festival, part one is the SDSR run to Toowoomba:

Part two shows elements of the festival then follows the ARHS train down range:

GrahamH's post reminded me that I still haven't put up any photos. I'm pretty busy at the moment and for the next few weeks. I'll try to do it after that!

Looks like a good day out.

Good that they got to 150 years as the railway through Toowoomba and to south of Toowoomba is most likely to be closed post Inland

No,
SW line NG from Toowoomba, closed and replaced with the new SG line from Gowrie to Yelaborn (border)

- Goodniwindi/Tallon and Millmerium branches that currently supply traffic be converted to SG where viable or closed. In case of Millmerium I believe the Inland will run past the still serviced grain silo's, so simple just to gauge convert their yards. For the Goodni/Talloon branch, expect this to be gauge converted, whether its to Tallon is ????

For the existing NG line from Gowrie to Calvert, consider it gone. It will not be able to compete in any shape or form as the Inland to Gowrie is being built DG, with 35 heavier axle load, 150% longer trains, 20% less route distance...........etc. The day the Inland is open for traffic will be the last day the existing line will be serviced by freight services.

Personally I'ld like to see a section from Toowoomba to back to where it joins the Inland east of Menzies Creek retained for a heritage operator, should there be an interested party to do so.
