Well done, 7334. The glow worm tunnel is correct. I thought that one might go pretty quickly.

Signals clear for 7334.

Thanks to mikesyd for pointing that out.

I said it was different.  I shall try again.

This is a screen print from Google Earth.

There is a definite and distinctive horseshoe curve there.

But where?

Happy to post a wider view if it is needed but I doubt it will be.

I have also deleted my post that quoted the original photo and will 'sit on my hands' for this one, and I would suggest that anyone else who saw what was there might do the same.

Just interrupting with the previous disappearing Silverton shot. (I hope)

It looks like Photobucket have changed things regarding the linking of photos in other websites (ie RP Forums) in the past few days. Their details are confusing, but it seems that the free plans no longer allow linking.

http://support.photobucket.com/hc/en-us

A search on the subject brings up another forum and quite a bit of angst :

http://www.patrol4x4.com/forum/general-discussion-18/photobucket-ripoff-371201/

As it stands, I can see photos that I have linked, but not those of others.

So end of posting PB links unless you wish to pay up, and it aint cheap either !!

I'll post this in the main RP site thread as well, if I haven't been beaten to it.

Intriguing Google Earth image.

I'll have a wild guess at Berrigan.

Not Berrigan

Is it Sodwalls?

Valvegear don't think Sodwalls. My grandfather was born and raised not far from there. Appears disused?
My first thought was Tarana-Oberon.

Not Berrigan, Sodwalls, nor anywhere between Tarana and Oberon.

It last saw a train about 1989.

Not Berrigan, Sodwalls, anywhere between Tarana and Oberon nor the Dorrigo line.

Last train was about 1989

Still guessing, Cooma line"

Not Berrigan, Sodwalls, anywhere between Tarana and Oberon, the Dorrigo line, nor the Cooma line.

Someone is going to have to get a bit closer that guessing the line.

Last train was about 1989.  Think about that because the service was suspended for reasons totally unrelated to the line itself or the operator involved and it never recommenced.

It is indeed.

Staff to GrahamH

I walked a good part of the line from there to Batlow in the late 1980s/early 1990s, probably not long after the Mountain High Railway ceased operations.  I remember getting a filthy look from some woman who lived near the horseshoe curve and thinking stuff you, its not yours!

I walked up the track for a fair distance as it slowly climbed higher up the side of the valley until I came to a dense thicket of something like bamboo which I was not game to try and force a way through given it was early summer and I had reservations about what might be occupying it.  The Mountain High Railway had replaced a few sleepers on the line and they told me that it was not unusual to hit a sleeper with a pick to drag it out and find a snake came out from underneath it.

The next day I walked down from near Batlow to the other side of the same thicket.  There is a second very tight horseshoe curve up near the top of the climb.

Thanks 7334. I heard about places where 'the line nearly went round in a circle' from a local PMG (now Telstra for the youngsters) linesman while I was working in the area in early 1974. A quick map check found the one shown above.

I have nothing to show now so Open Floor.
