Melbourne now as clogged as Sydney, and the city's north-east has worst traffic

We have delayed a train to Doncaster, we have ignored public transport upgrades, we continue to divert money to where places that suit transurban and the road freight industry and we have crazy projects which do not make economic return sense.

Sydney isn't so bad if you know your way around and avoid peak hour.

You Melbourne has to do is what we are doing in Sydney. Spend lots and lots of money on massive road and rail projects. It's not one or the other. It is both.

Westconnex, Northconnex, NW Metro, CBD and SW Metro, Western Metro, CBD to SE light rail, Parramatta light rail, Northern beaches tunnel. 60+ billion dollars all to resolve our congestion issues.

All projects are needed to resolve the issues and if one is dropped then everything will fail.

Problem here is that we've spent several billions on road projects whilst neglecting public transport - that's why we need to start spending more on the latter - to rectify the imbalance.

The new metro tunnel is actually a good thing to build. The level crossing removal program is going to take many years before they are down in the single figures like Sydney. Utilising the Doncaster reservation is the next thing that needs to be done after that with either rail or light rail. Buses are not the solution.

The real issue is rapid population growth and the successful push towards high density living .

Incorrect. Large house Suburbia that requires cars to get anywhere is a large cause of congestion.
