G'day all.

I model the South Maitland Railway with a loose time frame.

With the upcoming release of the Auscision 48's I was wondering if there was ever a conversion kit for the old powerline models into a PL or am I going to have to modify from scratch?

Cheers, Aiden.

Not aware of any commercially available conversion kit but I do recall an article several years ago in (I think) the AMRM about the conversion of an original Trax/Powerline 48 to a PL.

The following AMRM volume/page number articles were the subject of the NSW 48 class locomotive.  If the conversion article exists, it will be in one of these:  124/28, 156/34, 184/39, 189/52.

Thanks for that Yogi. I was able to locate the last three issues (and yes they each contain an article on the Trax/Powerline 48 and on the pages indicated) but its not one of these. The most recent of these issues (Issue 189) is December 1994 and I'm sure the article I'm remembering (if it exists in AMRM) wasn't that far back - maybe 10 or 15 years at most.

Am i right in assuming all that is required for the DCC and sound is the DCC decoder as the speakers are already included?

Try asking on the Auscision thread, here we are helping  with the PL class, which is a varient of the 48/830 class.

This most likely the article you are after: Driver Only Operation of Powerline 830 Class AMRM #179 April 1993 p28

Thanks but that's a conversion of a Powerline 830 class to a DA. Similar, but there appear to be significant differences between the DA and PL classes particularly around the front cab window.

I specifically recall the article was about the PL Class. May have simply being an article about the PL Class rather than details of a conversion to the model. Can someone with an AMRM Index look up "PL"?

Tony

Afterthought - however the article on the 830-to-DA conversion could still be useful because it does detail the changes to the mechanism (effectively turning it around) because of the now lowered leading hood.

In my database, the only SMR locomotive reference I have for AMRM is issue 102, page 29.  Sorry, don't have a copy to hand to check.

Hi,

I have looked in Magindex and there are no references to a PL class locomotive for AMRM for either articles or reviews.

Thank you, I'll have to try hunt the kit down.
And thank you to everybody else, Judging by the cover of that AMRM issue it is about the 10 class.
