I got my Email yesterday, saying congrats. Got excited and then it pretty much said that i have to wait up to 12 months before starting, casue of the merit system. it didn't say anything about where I was on the list, so still no idea how long i got to wait.
It also said that they would give 4 weeks Notice before you start training.

I got my acceptance email last week, but am still waiting on Medibank to finalise my medical results from last month.

HR Called yesterday they are sending out a starter pack in the mail and sending a E-mail sometime today. I also thought it was 4 weeks as well, they did say that if the notice was too short to let them know.
I wasn't going to  wait another 3 months so i accepted the "shorter" notice and have told my current employer that i am leaving.

Very Happy

Nice work banger. Thanks for supplying us the information and yes I would do the same. I've completed everything that's needed, I believe. I've completed the medical, references, tests blah blah blah. However I am still awaiting any sort of call, I haven't had a call from HR since the very first call which booked us in for assessments. The only call I got since then was from Medibank for the medical booking and it's been like a month or more since that was all completed. The only things I have as a reference to the job are a bunch of emails  Confused Not a good sign for the merit list  Sad

I would suggest politely emailing someone at Recruitment for an update (you should have a contact name at the bottom of a recent RailCorp email). I sent my contact a message yesterday and they called back today with an offer to start May 2nd.

Sounds like a good idea!

Also accepted position over phone. Received letter of offer in email, expecting mailed offer to arrive anyday. For Petersham class 2nd May start. Only two weeks away.

Who ever starts next week on 2nd May, just check your email if you haven't already, it's been moved to Belmore. Not at Petersham anymore.

well zip, quack, nothing at the moment, obviously I must be somewhere down the bottom of the list but I know they've checked everything that's required, I just have to wait in limbo Rolling Eyes

The way you have to look at it is, like this. Would they pay for medicals and criminal checks on loads of people who wouldn't get the job? Just gotta remain hopeful that you'll get a call up soon Smile

Could always work casually at a call centre or something whilst you wait Smile

All is not lost, it was mentioned the other day there will be a class commencing at the end of May and another one in August. Hope you get in if they stick to their plan.

Hi All, first post to this forum after viewing much great information over past few weeks. I got the call last week to start in May, would anyone have any insights into the training & (barrier?) testing process, or even any advice as to any solid ideas for preparation in advance ?
  misty Station Staff

The trainers will give you all the info that you need. The best advice I can give is to follow their instructions, pay attention in class, ask lots of questions, and do your homework.

Well, must be getting close to the end of the training, so how is everyone that made the school doing? There has not been any posts for nearly 2 months now!

Yeah we're plugging along nicely. Final exams are next week! Fingers crossed that we all pass  Razz

Whoever takes on Yard Box if its vacant needs to have a hobby and from what I have seen in recent times is that Coal Stage cant be much better.

Gossip is that their both due for closure EVENTUALLY...........

Do signallers wear uniforms?

Does anyone know what the pay is like once you pass training? And for the other levels?

If you have a look at the Sydney Trains Enterprise Agreement it looks to be about $1050/week as a new trainee, progressing to $1120 for a Grade 1 1st year, then $1200 G1 2nd year on. A few other allowances will vary that in terms of morning/night shift, etc.

Thanks for the info! Link doesn't work and I wasn't able to find it but the pay seems lower then I expected. Are there any other "trainee" positions at Sydney Trains other than signaller and driver?

I'm ultimately wanting to become a driver but if I don't make it through would a signaller be a good step into the rail industry and then say a year or two later try for the trainee train driver? Or is it frowned upon to be applying for another role so soon?

Also, do signallers work the same 24/7 shifts as drivers or are their shifts more 'friendly'?

I can't speak for their roster, but you could try the CSA/platform staff route, or Guard if they call for them again.

Dunno why the link didn't work, but here it is unencoded: https://www.fwc.gov.au/documents/documents/agreements/fwa/ae410462.pdf

Closure is on the horizon after the Mt Vic Yard reconfiguration for which preparatory works are underway eg old signals depot at Katoomba has been tarted up as a staging post for those works.

In regard to CSA positions, recently a number of candidates have made it a fair way through the process, only to be told all bets off. Once the new EBA is in place that situation may change. Might be a few CSA jobs advertised up the Blue Mountains line. Again, maybe after EBA concluded.

Doubt signalers jobs would be offered to new starters. Really require fair bit of knowledge of the network.

By the tone of your questions I doubt you would be a good candidate. Lower your ambitions a bit for a start. You could start as a cleaner. Many have. A lot of the candidates for wages jobs in the rail have degrees. I know of at least 4 CSA's where I work who possess degrees. One a masters.
