Central Station Questions

Hey fellas, just got a few questions about central station.

1.  When did Platform '0' (the one next to platform 1, where the hostel is) get taken out of use.  I've been told this was a parcel dock, is this right?

2. When did platform 15 get taken out of use this year and why?  Seems like a backwards step.  I know it was only this year.

3.   Why wasn't the "new" tunnel between the IC platforms and 16/17, and 18/19 used by the public until only just now.  This is an old tunnel.

4. Is the mortuary platform ever going to be reconnected?

There were two mail and parcel sidings behind one platform, probably stopped being used when the SRA got rid of mail trains.

Its possible the original concept for Platform O was for both incoming and out going Mail and or Parcels but maybe it was found it wouldnt work as it would require the Vans to be shunted from what ever line they arrived on to that dock.
It would be much quicker to do as they did and load and unload where the train was and use the trolleys to take it to and fro.

Could those roads be used by the suburban parcel vans at one time?

Metro works. Word on the street is that more platforms are to go for Metro works.

That's my understanding, yes. I don't work for the entity, I'm going off secondhand information.

Maybe there were differing methods over the years. I remember during the late 70s a string of vans in the dock being loaded in the early evening. I enjoyed reading the chalked destinations written beside each door, destinations all over the state. I can only assume the vans were marshalled in order that the trains departed, or it would have been awkward...

There is also a bridge being constructed up near Cleveland St  running from Regent St to near where the shore line does a little dip below the rest of the Up tracks . Quite steep in style & maybe only 1 lane width but very solid . Another Gladys pipe dream .

The bridge is being constructed so they can access Sydney Yard from another location instead of the ramp leading to Platform 15

Probably see a heap of truck & dogs shifting spoil from excavations for Metro on this bridge.

The population explosion expected in the next twenty years, why does everything have to remain in old Sydney instead of regional centres like Bathurst, Moss Vale, Gosford, Newcastle or Taree recieving infrastructure funding?
The place will be shoulder to shoulder.

Unfortunately it's been proved time and again that people don't want to decentralise and do want to move to Sydney. So glad I don't live there any more, just worse and worse every time I visit.
