OMR/E6 Transport Corridor

    Location: Geelong
    On Friday, catching my last down train to Geelong for the working year I noticed as we travelled between Manor Loop & Little River a number of survey pegs to the west which appeared to be the rail reservation for the proposed Outer Metropolitan Road/E6 Transport Corridor.

    Catching the train up & back to Melbourne again yesterday for the cricket I spotted them again.

    With the development that is taking place in Melbourne's west & in the Geelong region I wonder whether we're going to hear some kind of announcement about the early stages of this project (possibly rail related) in the lead up to the State election.

    I had heard from one of the regular commuters who I travel with (who regulary attends PTV workshops) that this is the route that PTV are pushing as a solution for the current Geelong line over-crowding as opposed to the Metro2 plan.

    Now are you thinking that the rail line in the middle will be used to divert Geelong line to the Ballarat line via this corridor.

    I didn't think they would be investigating this corridor so early, without much announcement or funding.

    I thought that this rail line in the middle was for freight originally. Well there isn't really much information on this particular project other than the land is secured and an indicative route is shown.

    Most likely possibility is Double track SG from Manor to Beveridge (especially if Bay West is built), and double BG at least to Rockbank junction if it carries Geelong passenger trains.

    I thought this may have been the case too but on returning to Geelong last night I couldn't see any survey pegs on the east side of the line towards to the Princes Freeway.

    I thought this may have been the case too but on returning to Geelong last night I couldn't see any survey pegs on the east side of the line towards to the Princes Freeway.

    Sam, do you have any more info on the exact location of where the survey pegs are?

    I am aware that there may be work occurring for a new road crossing of the rail line on the UP side of Manor Loop for the new Ison Road/Armstrong Road connection, but wasn't aware of anything in the location you described.

    It has been around since at least 2009 - longer than Daniel has been in the chair.

    Hey Ross.

    The area is definately between Manor Loop & Little River, the rail reservation for the proposed Outer Metropolitan Road/E6 Transport Corridor. Literally in the middle of no man's land!
