First big SSR lash-up over Ardgeln for 2018

This morning saw the first round for 2018 in the ongoing battle of SSR vs Ardglen, brought to you by locomotives C510, C506, 48s35, 48s34, BRM001, G513, 4911 & 4917 on train no.5444, consisting of 59 wagons with a total weight of 4938 tonnes, from Merrywinbone to Port Waratah.

It's a matter of the power available to haul the train over Ardglen, and also that the loading end the track is not suitable for heavy locomotives such as the C Class.

Shame about the Alco garbage in the middle, totally ruins a good EMD line up. Considering the others in the consist they'd be contributing SFA!

Two jobs - increased access charges, double the crews, double the logistics, double the track occupancy, double the paperwork.

In the US and Canada they run grain trains three times the size of this.
