While I would like to see trains head north to Tenterfield or even Wallangarra again. I just don't see it happening without a mine involved.

Right now there is no freight above werris creek and only a daily 4 car DMU service in the busy times.   If you took baby steps of reintroducing freight to tamworth, and maybe an extra 1 or 2 services a day to either Tamworth or Armidale then maybe people could take a reopening proposal seriously.

I would like to see a daily service to tenterfield with a bus connection to toowoomba and a bus connection to brisbane.   I reckon you could a fill the 2 buses everyday as you aren't dealing with small country towns.  But this alone wouldn't justify having to rebuild around 200km of railway.

I would agree with ivahri except for the fact that the New England highway north of Tamworth and Armidale have not improved and the train corridor to glen innes is still mostly in tact. Our road toll has been going up recently and so maybe it is time to look at getting cars and coaches off the roads and re introducing a train service to glen innes.

Some line straightening here and there between sydney and broadmeadow could reduce the travel time 30 minutes on this section. I'm sure a niew alignment over the mountain between Murrurundi and Ardglen could chop 20 minutes of the journey time.
Paid for how?

Money from the stamp duty collected from all the foreigners buying up property in Sydney.

That money from Sydney should be spent in Sydney infrastructure. Not on railways to nowhere.

Maybe then, the money from outside Sydney should be spent out there rather than the usual reverse aspect of where the regional areas prop up Sydney.

Id say a cheaper option would be those busses continuing down to Armidale and meeting the train there.

Re freight, watch Tamworth, theyre trying to get an intermodal running and have some funding for it I beleive.  Lets see what happens.

Closed north of armidale.  Physically impassable north of guyra due to bridges(more like large culverts) being removed for easier private property access.

I know that there is at least two projects in the pipeline, one that affects the Barraba branch that has been on the cards for a while and openly reported on.

There is one other working that has met some resistance or similar, but if it gets knocked back, there is a contingency plan that is being worked on.  Cannot say anymore at this point though.

sounds like impediments afloat, most old rails in situ rarely are utilised,  will renew old buildings  or change the geography for better grades .Great to see If it happens.

The DPC have released its consultation report on the controversial railway corridor north of Armidale

The future of the disused railway corridor is chugging along, with the release of a consultation report from the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

2/3s want the corridor preserved.  1/3 want the rail trail.

Cant find anything official from NSW DPC though - anyone else?

Which ironically will achieve the same result. ROW remains, no trains will run.
