Why is the train number 4500s/5455s when it goes interstate? I would have thought it would have used interstate numbering conventions.Correct, all trains originating in Broken Hill heading West are considered S.A. Intrastate trains hence being 45xxS and trains heading East are considered N.S.W. Intrastate trains hence being 84xxN
Or is this a legacy from when it as part of the SAR system?
The boundary point between the original AN territory and NSWGR territory is 30 metres East of the South Road Overbridge (392.2kms from Coonamia) This point is also the boundary of train control bases. ARTC Broadmeadow controls East of this pointWhy is the train number 4500s/5455s when it goes interstate?
