Nothing about the re-introduction of passenger rail services to Port Augusta.Spotted this by Bevans whilst reviewing this thread and I thought I would make a comment on the other side of freight market.
Nothing about regauging the Mount Gambier line for freight.
The trucking industry puts a lot of time and effort into lobbying governments of all persuasions - this announcement has been expected for a while hasn't it.Nothing about the re-introduction of passenger rail services to Port Augusta.Spotted this by Bevans whilst reviewing this thread and I thought I would make a comment on the other side of freight market.

Road trains are now operating in South Australia on the Sturt Hwy, the Dukes Hwy and the Riddoch Hwy
I have recently seen many A-Double and B-Triple Tippers on the Northern Expressway (grain haulage from Roseworthy sub terminal?) along with A-Double Wine tankers seen at the Wolf Blass winery between Nuriootpa and Stockwell.

I have a lot of respect for truck drivers because of their very difficult jobs but I've also seen some bloody dangerous and careless things being done with these massive 50-100 ton vehicles. I got cut off by a road train a few years ago in the Riverland, the driver didn't even look as he turned out onto the highway and if I hadn't been so quick on the brake pedal I could have been killed. It's a shame the intrastate rail network got destroyed here because we badly need some competition in the bulk haulage area to get some of these road trains off the roads.
I've had a barrage of stuff from the ALP in my letterbox and last night a 15 second visit from my local (Labor) member telling me that public transport fares would be slashed if Labor is returned. I have a glossy souvenir of that visit that promises an average 20% or so slashing of fares - reminds me of when I was living in Victoria and Labor slashed V/line fares by an across-the-board 20%.My local Labor candidate came past my house last week and told me the same thing!Told them I had already voted for them, and they said ‘great, thankyou!’.
It's not going to change my vote incidentally.
Hope this result will be a good thing as far as rail transport in this state goesDon't hold your breathe Rhys, everything is to be reviewed,
I think many of the projects will still go ahead, but I hope the first thing they whack that stamp on is the tram up the Parade Pressman!Seeming how Steven Marshall openly campaigned against the Parade Tram proposal, I'd say that's a given to be dropped hastily.
So now that liberal are in, what projects can we expect, or be cancelled?I don't think either will be cancelled.
I'm thinking about Gawler being sparked, and the Oaklands underpass?
Didn't they also promise to put right turns for trams at North Terrace, for a tram service they refuse to extend? Who wants to put money on that one?I do expect that one to be quietly diverted into an impenetrable mass of paperwork.
No one is going to touch putting a right turn in on North Terrace. What puzzles me is the assumption that incorporating the omitted SE curve requires the complete regrading of the intersection, given that the recently constructed layout has paired curves in the SW quadrant and single curves in the SE and NE quadrants. A feature of this work is that all the point-work, together with diamond and square crossings appear to have been constructed on the level, with slopes away from the junctions on the W and N legs. Another aspect of the completed layout is that the permitted tram movements could be accommodated within the existing traffic signal pattern.
The project is enough of a clusterf*** as it is, no one is going to want to deal with that for a movement that is entirely unnecessary and that requires such drastic changes to the level of the intersection (and the effect that has on all the services buried beneath!).
