In my opinion the following should be renamed:
- St James -> Hyde Park
- Green Square -> Alexandria
- Macdonaldtown -> Eveleigh
- Macarthur -> Campbelltown South
- Cockle Creek -> Boolaroo
- Hawkesbury River -> Brooklyn
None of the above.Agreed, why on earth would you waste hundreds of thousands of $$$ renaming, new signage, reprinting all timetables, relabeling all control equipment, retraining drivers & crews, maintenance crews and train controllers. Money better spent on realistic improvements.
Following on from the decision about North Melbourne, they are more likely to rename another station to Spencer Street and keep Southern Cross as it is.I think Southern Cross is fundamentally different enough to what it used to be to warrant the name change.
I think Southern Cross is fundamentally different enough to what it used to be to warrant the name change.The fact is that it is not fundamentally different. It was and is a railway station - that's what's fundamental about it. Spencer Street Station said, in three words, where it was and what it was. I repeat, what benefit accrued from the name change and its associated expense?

Times change, areas change, if the station's name in the area is outdated, then it too needs to change.Difference though is that the station's name still references the location. Southern Cross does absolutely nothing of the sort.
For example
Qld, "Vulture Street", is now "South Bank", which is far more representative of the reason you go to this station. Most people in Brisbane probably wouldn't know where Vulture Street is, but they all know where South Bank is.
"Fortitude Valley" replacing "Brunswick Street" is also the same.
I thought they renamed SSS to SCS because there was a (popular) hotel across the road to make it easier for the tourists, but I have to say, if the hotel is now closed, then they should change the name back to Southern Cross.Times change, areas change, if the station's name in the area is outdated, then it too needs to change.Difference though is that the station's name still references the location. They can't change the name back to Southern Cross; that's what it is now.
What stations (if any) need renaming in your opinions?A bit of a late reply on this
