Qube Workings

Great to finally see Qube run the train. See if they follow up on Thursday.

PN toc trains number of wagons per train is down to about 38 of late.

I read that QUBEs work is very seasonal so it part explains the absences. Their loco shortages would have also been a big factor.

QUBE run plenty of their own relics. 44 class and MZs to name a few. They just put a loco on the job that is fit for purpose.

C501 is stuffed with a terminal engine I hear so obviously isn’t available to lease. Same goes for GM36. Both need big money spent on them to be reactivated.

The broad gauge rake Qube ran was owned and operated for Cargil as are the standard gauge rake and also a rake PN operate in Vic on std gauge.

Containerised (tanktainer) Cement is coming from a new plant operating at Port Kembla in NSW adjacent to the steel works.

Problems at the Newcrest owned gold/copper mine near Orange has meant the mud train hasn’t run for awhile now and that has freed up some Locos too.

Is that an unusual time to run?

Yes. I don't think I've seen Qube here on a Saturday before yesterday.

On Friday at about 1130, I spotted a G (either 512 or 515) with the loaded Hanson Quarry rake awaiting line clear at Albion to make its way to Brooklyn. This is about 4 hours earlier than usually scheduled.

I am guessing with the 2nd daily train usually destined for Westall, and the Dandenong line occupied for LXRA works, this trains running is all over the place.

Fresh photos over at Vicsig have yesterday's Up Hanson Quarry train at Albion with B80 S303 & G515 with the B on point. That is a lot of horsepower for this train, did something fail on the G class?

Said to have failed around Wallan late Tuesday afternoon. B80 & S303 are covering while G515 is in Gemco for repairs.

Nice pic over at VicSig today of the new Cement service at Glenroy with QBX005 running as 5MS7 hauling a longer train than the earlier photos showed, around 26 tanktainer style pots and a couple of containers.

Also some clearly photo shopped fake news photos of the Paper train operating on Skyrail when we all know that the containers are transferred to road at Pakenham Upper or Nar Nar Goon or some other secret location as Skyrail can't carry any freight trains because it was under engineered Laughing

I noticed a QBX loco single unit leaving Bunbury Street yesterday which could have been the cement working.  Do we know where the train unloads?

Deni Rice train on the UP heading back to Melbourne with G521 & B74. Also a PN grain at Deni currently.

It unloads in Minto in NSW I read somewhere and goes via Junee.

'It unloads in Minto in NSW I read somewhere and goes via Junee.'

I assume that 'it' refers to the cement mentioned by Bevans a few posts ago?

Thanks James and Cbinyon.

I was not having a shot at anyone (on this occasion) only attempting to clarify a small point. Smile

For the first time in a couple of months or so Qube ran through to Tocumwal today, loading was six or so refrigerated containers.
In another rarity loading at Mooroopna included a handful of 20' boxes amongst the cement.
Locos are G512, B80.

Reports out of N.S.W. are that QUBE is running a train (5SC1 led by VL354 'Van der Hum', VL351 'Dane Hill' & 8044) from Minto to Oaklands, and return.

I spoke to somebody at Mooroopna yesterday, loading on last night's up service ex Mooroopna was empty cement, boxes for Campbell's Soup and cheese trucked down from Cobram. Train terminated at Mooroopna yesterday possibly owing to late running, arrived around 09 00.
Plenty of cement arriving into Mooroopna and being trucked to Boral plants as far away as Hay.

Hi @emmastreet I am a little confused.  Did the train leave the yard or was it stuck there?

Sorry about that, the down service terminated at Mooroopna. Presumably the up train departed last night.
