When has 520 been to Victoria apart from perhaps a visit to Serviceton or part way on the Mt Gambier/Heywood line? I would really like to see 520 going again and ride behind it though it may be by repute a bit harsher on the track to Victor Harbor...

Because of the loading gauge differences between SAR and VR, SAR steam locos can't/couldn't travel in Victoria due platform clearance issues.I don’t think 520 has run beyond Serviceton in its lifetime, not sure if it’s ever been to said location?Oz steam 88?
SAR was represented at Aus Steam '88 by diesel Loco 900 Lady Noire, even she had a few tight moments on the way over

I would really like to see 520 going again and ride behind it though it may be by repute a bit harsher on the track to Victor Harbor...Back in the days when I was married, the wife, myself, a good work mate and his wife went on the Southern Encounter special from Keswick to Victor with 520 (pre Standardisation) and had a great day, so good we did it again a month or so later

This was the first ever time a South Australian Railways steam locomotive had worked east into Victoria and with the gauge conversion imminent, the tour would also be the last. The train travelled as far east as Bacchus Marsh, due to the locomotive being too wide for the stations situated along the Melbourne suburban railway system. The locomotive combined with R761 for the majority of the tour from Wolseley in South Australia to Bacchus Marsh in Victoria."

I was the Special Trains Officer for V/Line back in 1994 and did the majority of the timetabling work for the Victorian section of this tour with 621. Here is one of my photos of 621 being coaled in Ararat yard on the Sunday evening before the loco returned back to Adelaide the next day.
