Off memory the new Metro will be 15m below the surface and as it would only be a one in three angle the travelator would put you in the centre of the surface platform but do not forget many would use the big $2m lifts.


Also the tiny lifts that are now used already have people queuing up for them and it will only get worse as we grow older as a nation.

You were right Peter.

How about incorporating metro west while they are upgrading central.

Central station upgrade will need to service the next 50 years and with a growing and ageing population this needs to be taken into account now.


The North concourse generally have at the same time a group of older tourists standing in a huddle while regular younger commuters are trying to get past them.


My suggestion is to incorporate a wide Metro west platform with two big elevators connecting it to each surface platform and the NWRL metro as well.

Well one of the Metros is going under Central and that is why the concourse contract will include platforms for the Metro before it heads out to Bankstown.

I am aware the NWRL to Sydenham is having a concourse at Central but what I am suggesting is a 20m wide metro west/metro east at 90 degrees and 20m below the surface platforms and use it as the interchange concourse thus saving $500m.


In my opinion it is impossible to go west of Barangaroo as an immersed tube would cause too much pollution and disruption and to go deeper would make it too steep to have a station at Martin place.

I wonder what divers would find on the floor of Sydney Harbour above the existing road tunnel or for that matter on the bed of Dora Creek above the Eraring cooling water exhaust tunnel.

Evidently it is 12m deep at Barangaroo and I do not know how much deeper competent rock is but overall the tunnel bottom would have to be at least 20m below sea level that means a grade of at least of one in ten to get to Martin place.


They could have a deep station below Martin place with big lifts or perhaps go around the world like Chatswood to Epping to gain height (if they had just built a bridge it would have been Chatswood to Parramatta)

I didn't say martin place eddy. I said the pitt street metro stop and town hall meaning the tunnel can come in under darling harbour without having to go under cockle bay.

Although it would cost so much to rent and move it may be better to just drill a central hole and excavate the 8mx4m shafts with jackhammers throwing muck down the hole and securing the sides as you go.
