Would it not technically be Kandos - Rylstone?

Depends where you take the train from.

The sad thing is that the only use is for ad-hoc heritage trains. If the remainder of the route to Mudgee were converted to a rail-trail, then the tourists with bikes might justify a more frequent/regular service.

(stand by for bursts of outrage from the anti-rail-trail lobby)

Problems I see with the restoring of the Kandos to Rylestone section is that anything using it has to come from Lithgow and depends on the line being maintained in a usable condition between Wallerawang and Kandos.
For a period the line was 'closed' from the Mt Airly sidings and Kandos because there was no traffic to keep it open and I have no idea if their still loading Coal from Mt Airly or not.
If there is none, John Holland or who ever is responsible for the line wont want to be spending money maintaining it.
Be great if they had their own rolling stock stowed at the old Kandos works and be available to run between Kandos and Rylestone.
