8km of railway between Rylstone and Kandos recently reopened for $1.1M (or $137,500 per km). Included 1 in 4 sleeper replacement with steel and 1,000 tonnes of ballast.Therre are at least two other posts about this in this forum.
Problems I see with the restoring of the Kandos to Rylestone section is that anything using it has to come from Lithgow and depends on the line being maintained in a usable condition between Wallerawang and Kandos.Airly to Eraring ran today.
For a period the line was 'closed' from the Mt Airly sidings and Kandos because there was no traffic to keep it open and I have no idea if their still loading Coal from Mt Airly or not.
If there is none, John Holland or who ever is responsible for the line wont want to be spending money maintaining it.
Be great if they had their own rolling stock stowed at the old Kandos works and be available to run between Kandos and Rylestone.
