Cement traffic

Back to the cement. Mooroopna has seen a lot of cement coming in lately. Probably 40+ full containers stacked there today, perhaps Qube building up a reserve for the days they don't run.
emmastreet
Of course that is another huge advantage that the Tanktainers have if you can stack them high!

I assume the Mooroopna cement loading is coming in on the normal Qube service not a special cement train?

The train in the photos on Vicsig was pretty much all cement tanktainers with a few containers at the front (which may have been bagged cement), 5MS7 service

This also interesting https://www.railpage.com.au/f-p2018149.htm#2018149 and wondering what happened to the cotton seed traffic to the same wharf.
The cotton seed was going as stockfeed owing to a prolonged drought in the cotton growing areas of Nth America.

The cement in moroopna normally is part of QUBES Tocumal freight train. It's been running again of late hasn't it?

Yes and no. It's been the only loading on the train for some weeks now. Locos lay over in Shepparton and that's as far as they go.
Motive power is a single G or with an S or B.

A new pic over at VicSig this morning of another cement train running as 5MS7 at Sunshine with 4 containers, around 14 tanktainers and a rake of empty flats trailing behind.

Motive power QBX002-872-864-8044 seems a bit excessive so maybe a transfer or the flats and some of the locos are headed somewhere else on other duties.

I try to cut and paste as little as poss for that reason but I thought I had gotten away with it this time.

Are they referring to the rake of old hoppers clogging up Tottenham yard James?

Cement has clearly moved on from these old hoppers to tanktainers and with Totty yard getting a makeover ATM them may have been told to get rid of some of the rusty old relics that PN likes to display there for the Gunzel communtiy to marvel at.

As we have mentioned earlier in this thread you can stack Tanktainers and use the flats for mutiple tasks. You can probably stack VPAX cement hoppers too if you have a crane handy but Workcover frown on that sort of thing these days!

They are preparing to start gas axing wagons in North Geelong Yard, the forklift which they have used in the past to lift the wagons/hoppers from their bogies showed up yesterday. I am hoping that they don't start until Monday as I planning on heading out to grab some photos over the weekend.

A new pic over at VicSig this morning showing quite a large cement train at Appleton dock yesterday.

I was under the impression that this traffic was to / from Geelong.

Does anybody have any new info on this traffic? It has been suggested that it was running to Minto or from Minto ie loaded in Vic or loaded in NSW and now we see it at Appleton, some clarity around the service would be appreciated.

The traffic moved from bulk cement hoppers to tank containers a while back, so I'm guessing the cement traffic still there ?

Does the cement actually come loaded from Minto into Melbourne or is it cement going from Melbourne to Minto?

The cement train arrived today from Minto.
