Starting a thread on the airport development.  Includes what seems to be a new international terminal.  I agree as the arrivals and departure halls so so small now and it is overly crowded.

The third runway is all well and good but weather may see this still reduced to two runways are times.  Sydney has 3 runways and only uses two at any one time.

Keen to understand how the traffic flows in and out of the airport could be improved as the traffic still banking up way back onto the freeway and beyond at peak times.

Leaving aside ground transport to and from the airport, the real kicker will be increase in aircraft noise with the addition of one or two new runways.  I remember the enormous stink after Sydney Airport's third runway went in back in the 1990s.

The main difference is that the residents affected were more ably financed and publicly engaged to do so...

Melbourne still has a lot of open space around the airport (what is not has become more industrial development) so this may not be as big a problem as was experienced in Sydney.

I still cannot work out how they are going to work the traffic flows given the current airport road design?

A fair bit of Westmeadows and I think Hillside too will be affected.

As for roads - build a train line instead asap.

7 News last evening confirmed in the story the railway station(s) will be integrated with the terminal which is exactly what is required.
