New Progress Rail/EMD Demonstrators for Australia

Just saw a post on Facebook showing these new units have now arrived. They arrived of a ship at Carrington sometime today and have been taken to Cardiff by SSR units 48s34 and 602. While it’s difficult to tell due to protective plastic, it appears EMD101, EMD102 and EMD103 are in a white undercoat livery.

The 88s are currently working as trailing locomotives and DP remotes on the Blackwater System, but not apparently allowed to lead. The PHs are still undergoing testing and accreditation on the Goonyella System, I stiil haven't heard of them working a train, but they were testing around Dysart a couple of months ago.

I thought this thread was about GT46Ace Standard Gauge locos ? Most of the posts are referring to that so why is the thread being highjacked by those on the skinny gauge from up north ?

The GT46 variants will be available in both gauges, and the skinny gauge market will be larger than that for God's gauge - discussing the reasons for these imports of either gauge has reasonably equal merit. This a locomotive model that will not be judged by its gauge or the state it runs in.

The 3 new standard gauge GT46ACE-2s will be going to their new owners after a paint job, it’s not PN,SCT or SSR.
The locos are very similar to previous GT46ACE, main change is walkway around the rear of loco by moving electrical components around.
They will not have 6 inverter drives but will stick to the inverter per bogie design that has proved very reliable.

Really 2LaGrange, then why have SCT returned the LDPs?
  2LaGrange Train Controller

Yes, SCT have returned the LDPs as a cost saving measure. However they will keep one or two with the rest going to PN on a short term lease.

Any updates on these 3 locomotives?

EMD102 and EMD103 were spotted with GWU008 today at Broadmeadow and are still in a white undercoat. I am thinking they may be getting taken to Port Augusta workshops as two were supposed to be going there but I’m probably wrong. I’m assuming EMD101 is still at Cardiff?

Have heard GWA have purchased them keeping a all EMD roster in SA.

GWA haven't as yet had an All EMD Roster in SA.

Didn’t say they “have" currently or past. How ever I am sure you would know a lot more Dion being a GWA representative....

But you did say:
keeping a all EMD roster in SA.

Last time I checked, to keep something you have to have it in the first place!

In the video here it shows 3 inverters in the place of the 1 large one on the older loco's.

The 3 very small inverter panels on the side are not main traction inverters they are for inverters contolling traction motor blowers and fan control removing the need for mechanically driven front bogie traction motor blower. This has removed a mechanical load from main engine increasing hp available for traction. These inverters have also improved reliability as a common problem on earler GT46Ace was TCC blower faults. ( Electrical contractor faults for blowers ) Using inverters removes the need for these contractors.

The locomotives use two inverters for traction exactly the same as did earlier locomotives the electrical cabinets have just been compressed and re arranged to fit a new walkway around rear of locomotives.
