3112 - Lithgow to Wallerawang shuttles - October 1991

For those planning to point their cameras at 6029 doing the Lithgow to Wallerawang shuttles this coming Monday, here's how things looked way back in October 1991 when 3112 did the job. Many of the views in the video have now been totally obliterated by vegetation growth. It has also been reported that going anywhere in between the highway overbridge and the Lithgow end of Murrangaroo tunnel will result in a security response from personnel from the adjacent prison almost as fast as your camera's shutter speed.
Enjoy,

I too urge those planning to be at this fantastic Steam Run NOT to be on the UP side of the line between where the GWH crosses the Main Line and the top of Tunnel Hill because of the Prison.
While many instances are not made Public, Contraband items have been found inside the Grounds that have come over the Walls so the perimeter is under constant surveillance  which is only to be expected.

Not much has changed since 1991 but all the Upper Quadrant Signals are gone as well as all the Signals and Communications lines too.
A new bridge over the Castlereagh Highway (Mudgee Road) has been added and the highway deviated to match but the old brick arch bridge is still there.
I did see the other day when crossing the Colliery Branch at Brays Lane, the foliage has certainly grown between the Power station crossing and Brays Lane and the track looks like its had some attention in recent times, better than it was when Wang Colliery operated it.

Fortunately the suggestion of going Single Line between Lithgow and Wallerawang has never eventuated.

What about on the bridge itself ?

I've shot from the bridge quite often, but I've also had the highway patrol stop and tell me to move because they thought being there was creating a traffic hazard.
