Technique question - removing flash from castings

  Gremlin Assistant Commissioner

Specifically in N scale, where models come with a lot of flash around the base of the casting, I have typically scraped at it with a scalpel and then gently sanded to get a smooth finish.  Very time consuming, especially when there is a lot of flash, sometimes up to 4mm.

Does anyone use a Dremel or similar with a very fine sanding disc...or anything similar?

The usuals: scrape with knife, file etc. But I also use a very sharp, small pair of wire cutters, probably the quickest method. I wouldn't use a dremel, in case it slips and leaves circular marks or goes too deep.
