not entirely surprising given the S class are basically a 2nd series GM. I think SSR have been/are running GM's on their vic grain trains as well.

After looking at more of Vines Network operating data the EL class is also listed, I don't even think that the EL class has ventured onto Broad gauge

Whether something is BG or SG is bureaucratic nonsense for accreditation purposes. There is/used to be similar nonsense about certain container heights which were OK to run on Saturdays but not other days (or something equally crazy like that anyway).

The VL class locos are not listed in that NSP however they regularly go down to Maryvale.

I believe there are now 2 VL units on the BG.

The 2 broad gauge VL class (VL356 & VL360) have been all around the BG network. Basically anywhere QUBE operate, they go. They have run the Tocumwal freight, they have run Deniliquin Rice trains, they have run on infrastructure trains and they have run out on the grain lines to where ever QUBE have seen fit to send them. But mostly, they just run to and from Maryvale, as that is where QUBE need the most Horsepower.

Am I correct in my belief that the VL class are essentially a derivative of the XR class? If so, then they should be able to run anywhere an XR class can run.

Also, on the topic of S312, I took a drive down to Seymour on Saturday, S312 was perched around the turntable, along with C501, an N class, a former PN Y class and a former Cootes/ Greentrains 80 class (8049 I think)

8049 is on SSR work in the Sydney and Newcastle areas.

Most likely you saw 442s5 which is now allocated to SSR Victorian duties and brought S312 down to Seymour.

S312 was gauge converted today and 442s5 was still at the turntable.
