Caught a video of FCAB in Chile starting a new passenger service. They were, I think, former QR SX carriages.

Catching these as a kid, never would I have though that they end up in:
  • WA
  • NZ (I think the ex WA sets)
  • Thailand
  • Chile

Were they exported to any other systems?

QR (or equivalent) still retains I think set 45. Are there others and are there other locations that they have ended up.

Parts of two sets (I think) in Cairns with CKSR. A number if these carriages were destroyed in an arson attack several years ago.

Same sort of celebrations happen when a QR train turns up!

Also I wonder if my chewing gum is still under the seat.

The SX cars used in Auckland prior to electrification are now stored out of use, along with large numbers of rebuilt British Rail Mark II SA/SD cars in Taumarunui in the central North Island.

Noticed in the video a 9 car SX ('s) set, were 7 out here.

I thought the ones that went to WA were on loan for the America's Cup, and came back to Bris.  The NZ SXs I think came from Zig Zag

New Passenger service? did you bother to translate the caption?
"Special FCAB "train of remembrance" Antofagasta - Mejillones in commemoration of a new anniversary of the city of Mejillones."

For the last decade or more FCAB has generated an EBITDA of over 55%
Highly profitable railways don't dabble in bums on seats

Those carriages (11 in total) are "owned" by the FCAB's Public Relations Department
They are periodically rolled out for highly targeted "jollies"

Used last weekend for Trenetón 2018, FCAB's contribution to Chile's annual Teletón

When the current owners purchased the company, there was a public service requirement to provide a passenger service to Bolivia. The government had inadvertently not stated the starting station for this service, or the timing. The new owners moved the departure point to Calama, 200km inland from Antofagasta, departure to 10pm, deliberately removed heating from the carriages (it is sub-zero in the Andes at over 3000 metres at night), and attached the carriages to the rear of slow freight drags. Generally took at least 18 hours to do the 200km or so to the Bolivian border. Arrival timed to reach the border at night when Bolivian Customs are closed. Needless to say few were mug enough to travel by train, numbers dwindled (mainly used by Bolivian peasants working in Chilean mines and backpackers - not Chilean voters), so the Chilean Government removed the requirement in 2008

Clearly not and thanks for the info.

Also I didn't know that you could do the translate thing, so thanks for the tip, I will do that for future Non English Vids. Much more informative!
