Narp, she was transferred from Bendigo back to Dudley St Yard in the early hours of yesterday morning and swapped for Y163 (Geelong Cars Shunter). Y163 is next to be Priscilla'd by SSR on behalf of V/Line, following Y129 & Y156. Y129 is the current Geelong Cars Shunter in lieu of Y163.

Apparently, Y161 most likely won't be done.

Apparently, paint has a habit of not being able to stick to oil, and there is meant to be more on the exterior than in the engine block.

Eventually, but all of the Ys are doomed once there are no cars that require shunting. Y161 is most likely to be the first to go though.

I have never seen or heard a Vlocity shunted by the Y classes.

Just remember, a 3 car Vlo has 3 engines.

Even if ALL Three engines were to fail, they would simply use another V/locity to shift it, and IF there wasn't another one available they could use a Sprinter.

Or they could call a bus to shunt with ..................Smile

About time the Ys got a lick of paint. I was at Southern Cross on Friday night, watching on as the shunters did their thing (it was either Y161 or Y163, can't remember for sure) and there was plenty of orange showing through the red on the long end.

They may only be shunters, but they are still on public display.

What was the shunter allocated to Maryborough Yard for a period before PN returned it to Melbourne?

Also Ballarat had a pilot iirc.

All 4 V/Line Y class (129, 156, 161 & 163) are now in the Purple livery, all back in service at either Southern Cross, South Dynon or Geelong.

Y161 was the last to be done, was returned to Southern Cross in early December.

So, I have been meaning to swing in and have a look to see which Y is the current Cars Shunter, as I had my suspicions, and can confirm that Y156 is the current Cars Shunter in Geelong.

The days of Geelong having a yard pilot would be numbered would they not?
