Woodfords health issues

I final got to see a decent heart specialist, he listened to what had happened and used this information in the diagnosiss. He did an ultra sound and he stated the condition was NOT serious (I had been told I had an excesively enlarged heart), while there was some enlargement of the left ventrical, it was not excessive. The main problem was the the poor pumping stroke. Even then this had impoved from 20% 6 months ago to 35%. He gave me a perscritpion for a drug that improves the hearts pumpimng I have to be alittle bit carefull of the heart drugs I take as they can lower my blood pressure to much. Current resting blood is 100/65, one drug they gave me recently to improve the pumping dropped it to 80/50, WAY to low.

I have developed a curios digestive tract issue over the last few weeks, almost any solid food  I eat causes an upset stomach that will last for around 3 to 4 hours and also a strong inclination to throw up within 5 minutes of eating, this is to say the least VERY unpleasent. I am now VERY gun shy of solid foods and I am currently living on soups and Complan.
My doctor states this should not be to much of an issue to control.

Note: Complan is a british product, basicly a milk/water shake powder, it was developed in the late 1950's specificly as a COMPLETE meal replacement for anyone that could not eat soild food. ITs quite expensive being around $5 for each meal. Unlike other products like Sustegen, Complan CAN be used as ones ONLY source of food, in the late 1970's I lived on it (in hospital) for 2 months without any problems.

Note 2: My weigh is now down to 134 kgs, this is down from a max 18 months ago of 170kg.

Early 1950's, I should be around for a while yet, nether health condition is serious and the REAL GOOD news is the weight loss, ALL health issues improve drasticly with weight loss. this is something I have I been putting a lot of energy in this summer. My target was to be below 130kgs at the end of march. I have gone down over 30cm in my waist line over the past 12 months, this is an achievement few are capable of doing under there own steam. everyone including my doctor says I am looking better.

No one believed me when I said a year ago that i would be below 130kg by march this year.

Cloths particularly trousers have been a major problem with a waist line thats shrunk so much. Some time back I got onto whats known as "Yachting shorts. THese are long denim shorts with an elastic waist band and a fly. A given size will fit one over a 12cm change in waist size.

Note: my ultimate target weight is to be below 120kg's, woodford has a BIG frame (Note 1) both in height and width , this ultimately dictates what I will weigh, I am and always will be a BIG man

Note 1:The human frame (ie skeleton) varies both in height AND width, this is something most of the medical and fitness profesion's do not always understand. Measurements of my rib cage and pelvis width show both are wide for my height (I am 185 cm (6ft 1in ) tall).

Glad you're improving and back with us. You must be proud of your weight loss, I also knew I guy who dropped 50kg from similar weight. Pants issues are a minor speed issue and one you should be congratulated to have.

Yes, obesity is both the cause and the catalyst for so many health problems, especially older.

I'm 103kg right now, over the years I have gone from 93-105 and back a few times, seems that when I change jobs I'm more active both at work and home and weight goes down, then as time goes on it creeps up. I'm 193cm tall and do some gym (weights) and other exercise such as bike, jog, walk, swim most days, but not enough or as intense as was due to other things in my life such as boys homework etc.  I think the message to my wife (who works longer hours than me) and I is that our time here in Dubai is nearing the end, maybe 2 more years and we should move on to get a healthier lifestyle away from the concrete jungle.

However as one Gym Coach said, "its easier and more sustainable to loose weight by eating less and right foods than trying to work it off" so over last 3 years I've tried to cut back on meal size and some of the rubbish just to ensure I feel hungry more often rather than eating because the clock says so.

The method I use to lose weight, I developed myself, based on observations of my exersize performance and eating patterns. Basicly it is a good breakfast, a medium lunch and a light tea (called the scandanavian eating pattern). It is important to eat the majority of my daily food BEFORE the major exersize of the day. ITs also CRITICLY important to eat a small amount after, otherwise ones metabolism will immediately comes to a halt and one will, NEVER lose anything. This nutrition also greatly helps the body to recover as well as repair any injuries.
Its is EXTREMELY important to have a good breakfast and have small tea, most of the food one eats goes for energy to the body within 1 to 4 hours so a big evening meal all goes to stored fat.

Important point I have found is there is no way to keep a short term track of one ones weight. Daily weight mearurements are a total waste of time. My weight will usually hold steady for 8 to 10 weeks then suddenly drop 5 to 8 kilograms. A number of doctors and gym instuctors said this is quite normal.
I have found if I measure and graph my waist I will see a constant reduction of around 1 to 1.5cm per week. Unfortunately its imposible to do a waist measurement to an accuracy of 1cm. Inspite of this "Noise level" in the mearurment over a peroid of 4 to 6 weeks one can see a distinct reduction.

Whilst I'm nowhere near as heavy as you are, I would love to lose 10-15kg. My goal would be around the 70kg mark, being a fairly small framed individual. Personally I'd find that eating pattern almost impossible to achieve as I'm never hungry before dinner time and only able to eat small quantities for breakfast and lunch. What's the secret?

Changing your eating patterns is VERY VERY VERY VERY difficult, the social pressure on one to maintain the current eating pattern usually being VERY high. This is why most people fail to lose weight.
For me it became obvious over a two year period that this method would succeed and so I completely changed my eating habits and more importantly resisted ALL attempts from others to change. Some people put immense pressure on me to have a social evening meal. I found it it did no good to tell them such an event could put one back a month or more so in the end they just had to be put in there place.
The secret, there is no secret, its straight out guts and determination to succeed.

Note: a small amount of exerscise after the main meal of the day is VERY important, it does NOT have to be strenous, just a duration of at least 45 minutes, a walk is fine.

Woodford, congratulations on your weight lose. 45+ kgs is a huge achievement.
It really is about what and how much you put in your gob. And moderate exercise as you say.
Speaking to someone ex-military on Xmas day on this subject. Stating, no overweight people in POW or concentration camps.

Anyway at 134kgs, you are 2 of me.
Best of luck, Mick.

I am currently using  Zantac12 to control the acid reflux and Maxolon to control the throwing up and quesy stomach. These two drugs are known to work Ok together and NOT interact with any of the heart medication drugs. These are, Frusemide, Ramapril, Spiractin and Maxolon.
Nexium appears to be a prescription  drug I will ask my doctor next time I see him. THe gastric problem is only temporary and my doctor said it should be easy to control once the cause is idenitfied.

Hmm, as my main meal is currently dinner, usually partaken of at around 7pm or later, I can see myself going for a late evening walk for 45 mins, NOT!

If I made breakfast my main meal and went for a 45 min walk after that I'd have to get out of bed by say 6:30am, potentially doable, BUT it's usually best for my wife and I to get up around the same time so that we can share breakfast and some company. Can't see her getting out of be d at 6:30am! She has severe health problems, non-life threatening with proper management, but do mean she needs lots of sleep.

Yes, I'm making excuses, but mostly valid ones! Wink

Woodford has been diagnoesed with stage 4 esophagus cancer, stage 4 means it spread to other organs. The esophagus cancer itself can be controled with raditation therapy no problems but one will eventual be over come by failure the other organs.
