Railway Archaeology: where is it? #2

Well, I just tried "Street View" again. And this time it came up. The sign proclaiming the site of the station can be seen.

I noticed though, that Wikipedia gives Palooma as the end of the line, beyond Barrington. Palooma was the terminus but was subsequently extended to Barrington. Hairylegs' overlay also ends at Barrington as does the information that I have.

The pertinent clues are that it's close to the Tasmanian Arboretum & on the Palooma side.

I mistyped Palooma as Paloona and found on Trove that the Melrose - Paloona branch line was closed in 1935. Melrose then?

Well done almost Rusty Rick. The target station is between Melrose (which the line is named after) & Paloona. (Apologies for misspell in my previous post.)

If you search for "Tasmanian Arboretum" in Google earth then travel towards Paloona, the sign will be seen hidden in the grass where the road bends away from the line.

I'm looking forward to posting the information that I have about this line with the complete list of stations.

I found the sign, but seeing as others have been digging more I will stay silent.

That was a real lucky guess. A link to the article.

I’ll post something tomorrow.

Melrose was not the name that I saw on the sign in Street View.

Surprised

Yeah! But what was the station name, RR? The intermediate one that is the target.

Better post it Mikesyd, before we all go crazy....

The sign reads (over 3 lines) :

Talba Station
Barrington Don
Tramway

It's on the outside of the bend of Old Tramway Road, just north of Melrose Road, beside a power pole.

Assuming that's the one, Rusty Rick may keep the staff as he tried hard and I just poked my nose in when all the clues had been given.

It is indeed Talba. And a magnificent effort by Rusty Rick to get that close without the benefit of Street View.

Detpa?

(They have representation at least on the East Coast of Australia, according to their website.)

Not Depta, but you're in the right general vicinity. The site is no longer active - but really that's obvious being in this forum.

None of the above. The line saw regular use, but I doubt it’s seen any action over the last couple of years.

" I doubt it’s seen any action over the last couple of years."
And what seems to be an active track in the background too.

Bloody lot of them about....but as he says "in the general area".

Ok, as a bigger clue. The line carries / carried not the usual freight for most lines in the west of the state.
