jibbonpoint is getting closer, but not close enough. A section just north of Tumblong is actually under the southbound lanes of the Hume Highway now.

Lets narrow it down then, it's on either the Tumut/Batlow line (which Tumblong was on), or the Tumbarumba line.

Tarcutta?
jibbonpoint
Yes, looking west from the former Hume Highway Level Crossing at Tarcutta (which is actually 2-3 km south of the town itself). The gantry crane at the former station site is still there on the eastern side (behind the camera).

(This had been mentioned in response to another recent quiz, so I decided to stop and take a photo on my way back to Sydney).

Staff to jibbonpoint.

Try this. I expect it to be a little less challenging than my last. I need to get out more.

A bit easier with rails still in place and not so long unused, leaves about 3 lines to investigate.

Derwent Valley line beyond Hayes - unused thanks to PN action around 2005.

Edit - Beaten to it!!

Was along that way a couple of years ago and this stuck in my mind.  A quick look at Google Earth sealed it.

I am happy to defer to Delta 4 (mikesyd) as I have no photographs ready to post.

Nope

It would have had to be 5'3" gauge though - and removed so as to prevent conversion to SG.

Actually this line was always 3,6 and in a state that has never seen the benifits of broad gauge. So that is the first hint

You have betrayed yourself then. Razz

So that narrows it down to WA, QLD, TAS and NT - and I doubt it's the latter.

Not Tas as Tasmania had a BG line from launceston

Dangersdan707
Yes, Tasmania didn't see the benefit of BG for long and added a 3rd (NG) rail to the then BG line from Launceston to Deloraine in 1885 when the Deloraine to Devonport line was built (as NG) and then removed the BG rail in 1888). BG lasted 17 years.

The forest does look a bit like a jarrah forest.
Not quite but near enough.  I will say it is that sawmill branch that went southwest from Forrestfield to Jarrahdale or some such place.

Not a Sawmill branch, this was part of the WAGR network. It's further from Perth that those 2 places
