When will Sydney Metro Northwest open?

Hi I am just wondering when the Metro will open and will there be a possibility of it opening before the scheduled date?

Thanks

It should be some time in the middle of the year. Testing and approvals have to happen first. Trains are running up and down the line every day so it shouldn't be too long.

Sydney Metro Northwest: Services will commence on Monday 6th May,however I would think they would have a community open days on the weekend prior to the official start date.

Rather than start another YASMT (Yet Another Sydney Metro Thread), I thought I'd post this here:

"They don't even have paying customers yet and it's already a standing room only service."  Smile.

The video shows the problems that the vertically-challenged, incl the Premier, face, or will face, in travelling while standing up on that train. She is not comfortably attached to that overhead stirrup.

Just after the election.  I wonder why.

They have been doing this for all of the stations for the last few months. This is nothing new. The only other station left to have an open day is rouse hill and that is due in April. I have been to Bella Vista, Kellyville and the Showground before and will be going to Castle Hill at the 1:20pm session. May I make a suggestion that those who are cynics go and have a look.

Been the way for 4 years now, if they could bring forward their much proposed new toy, I'm sure they would.

Some gripping footage here (LOL). Sydney Trains operates while Metro practises at Chatswood on 18 April.

Sorry, I didn't see this before. But I would have said close win for the Premier.

I note on the video that there are a number of gates beyond the train stopping position. Is this to allow longer trains in future as the stopping position is precise to match doors with gates?

The Metro is currently 6 cars, it can be expanded to 8 cars in future if and when needed.

The higher frequency operation will negate the need for longer trains for a long time.

It will be needed when the new line is opened from chatswood in to the city in 2023-24.

I am staying with my relatives who live in an apartment block in Chatswood which looks over the Oval and the terminating point for the metro. I have been surprised to see the metro trains testing all through the long weekend. Must be costing a lot in wages. They seem to always have a person on board who walks through while they are stopped. At Chatswood station they enter the platform, the train doors open but not the platform doors. The indicator boards are operating. I see a new general timetable will come into force on Sunday. However I am flying back to NZ on Sunday and have no plans to return before next Easter so will not get to try out the metro this year. I am not sure I will want to experience the crowds on Chatswood station when the Metro begins operation. My relatives, being in their mid 80's, rarely travel by train nowadays. They might use the metro to go to the Movies at Macquarie and report back to me.

Testing is a necessary part of the process. Sometime in May is about all we can safely say depending on when authorisation is given by the transport body.

Cost of labour during testing is nothing compared to cost of construction.
