Waratah A42 - From the Richmond Crash

edi cardiff and from what I am hearing it will not be repaired as there was significantly more structural damage then first diagnosed. I am hearing it is to be scrapped.
You should get your hearing checked or stop listening to foamers.

Oh really and I suppose you have it on good faith that it is actually going to be repaired. There is plenty of space at cardiff for it to be worked on and the small amount of b sets at the same time and yet it is still sitting out in the yard with all it's gloriously damaged panels. If it could be repaired it would have been done by now.

set A42 is currently in Auburn Maintenance Centre with "Under test"labels on it,

I will just sit here and wait for the armchair experts (yes you know who you are) to admit their knowledge was deficient.

It is amazing how quiet some of the armchair experts who claimed it would be scrapped?

it was repaired and is now being tested before returning to revenue service. if they wanted to scrap it, they would have done it a long time ago...

No, D6379 and D6479 are the two trailer driving cars from PPTV, they were rebuilt as spares and now D6379 has been put into service.

Bit of history - the intention was to re-use the two TDCs as spares, and the two motor cars would be rebuilt and put into a later set. At some point it was decided to not re-use the motor cars and just have CRRC build two more motor cars that were up to the current standard.

Guess what the two PPTV motor cars were numbered?

N5342 and N5442.

Yep, they were supposed to become a part of A42 all along, but never did.

Sorry, yes. I keep forgetting they’re driving trailers!
  M636C Minister for Railways

All four cars of the PPTV were stripped down to the basic stainless steel shells.
Even the nose doors were removed from the driving trailers.
These were stored outside Cardiff Workshops with the numbers still visible on the D cars but the Ns were given new numbers (I think one was 0101), since new cars had their original numbers.

At this stage someone realised that the contract included two spare D cars and the two D shells were moved inside the workshops.

It is likely that a lot of equipment was moved from the damaged D car to 6379. It had never had seats, for example.

The spare Tangara D cars were robbed of parts when in storage so it was thought better not to keep the complete cars in store but just to fit them out when required.
