Correct, the turntable will be retained. It was last used to turn R707 in 2015. R707 returned to Bacchus Marsh last year but was required to run tender first from Melbourne.

I would expect the turntable to be usable again after the works are all complete.

The turntable area has been set up as like a historic railway display.

The occo has been extended to include Monday at the last minute - not a good look.

After enduring three days of 90+minutes on the 16:33 rail replacement bus, I called in sick on Thursday as I'd had enough. I went in yesterday (Friday) as I foolishly thought...oh well it's back to trains on Monday.

Yeah right Exclamation

I figure the extra day was going to be called anyway due to the professionalism of the flyers they were handing around at SCS and the weather has been near perfect for the whole week, so that cannot be blamed.

Last night (Friday) when we got into Ballan at 18:10, I asked the driver if he knew when the train he was replacing was actually scheduled into Ballan (17:21), he said 17:38.
I said...no that's the time the bus replacement is due into Ballan...the actual train is due in at 17:21 but the driver being so bus oriented couldn't get his head around the fact the bus we were on took twice as long as the train. I said to the driver it's not his fault he was so late...it's just the traffic between the City and Melton that's really bad.

There was works going on at Ballan station today (Saturday), setting up more of the steps etc. and as it's really the first cold day, I bet the workers were wishing they'd worked a bit harder...currently as I write this it's 8c and falling.

Why not try that mystery 24hr virus that is very common on a Monday,Friday and either side of a long weekend. I don't know what it is but when you're in the doctors room getting a medical certificate, your feeling better and should be right for work the next day .
Has anyone else suffered from this mystery virus?

And now you can just pop down to the local chemist for an Absence From Work certificate https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-03-20/small-businesses-warn-of-sickie-epidemic/10919824

I wish they had those back in my 20s when I used to get a slightly different 24hr virus either side of a drinking session, oh sorry, weekend.

The Latin term for this mystery illness is Plumbum Pendulum, which translates as Swinging the Lead. ( for those not familiar with slang - Google it)

We had a girl in her late teens at work many years back who was badly infected with something that only popped up on Monday mornings. She had a miraculous recovery when she was informed that she had used her quota of Sick Leave for the year and was facing Leave Without Pay until the anniversary rolled around (Paid Sick Leave was 20 calendar days per year then and accumulated if not used).

It was always amazing at how soon a recurring illness would disappear when the "victim" realised that the day off would cost them money.

Gotta love V/Line - "WORKS EXTENDED: Due to Ballarat Line Upgrade works being extended..."

Not running overtime but extended - makes it sound like a good thing!

BTW wasn't it signalling commissioning problems that caused the Hurstbridge line works to "be extended" last year? Similar problems I wonder?

I wrote a strongly worded email to the Regional Rail consortium and to my local MP who replied immediately:

Hello Michaela, your prompt reply is very much appreciated..

We all know that once these works are completed we will all benefit, however I strongly believe there is a clear lack of technical expertise that has been stumped by the apparent difficulties that have arisen from Maddingley.

It doesn't inspire confidence.

Thanks again for your reply,

Mike.

I am genuinely sorry about this. I had to go to Melbourne today and did the bus both ways - unexpectedly.  It added time to my journey. And I appreciate that it is a big disruption.  As a regular commuter, I appreciate that you are inconvenienced (and that’s the nice way to say it).

I apologise for the added grist to your journey.

Regional Rail Revival have issued a statement of apology. We are working to get this right. Clearly, it isn’t to the timelines we planned.

It won’t make tomorrow’s journey any easier, but we are building for the long term.

I’m happy to meet with you at any time. And I completely understand your frustration.

Yep, they’ve buggered this up royally. Mistakes happen, sure, things go wrong, but an occo for twice as long as advertised suggests there was a poor understanding of the completion risks involved in the first place.

Does anyone have the inside word on what the specific cause of the delay is?

I have no 'inside word' as my contact is no more...suffice to say it doesn't inspire confidence that a relatively simple process is beyond the tech's and others who are apparently 'qualified' to undertake this work.

What happened to the guys who did the hard yards when the RFR and all its signalling from Sunshine to Ballarat AND the TPWS was installed back in 2005...or did the consortium think their expertise is now redundant Question

That is the problem with outsourcing work.   You have to rely on the company to have the workers with the required skills.
Doing a job in-house you would know the skillset of your own staff.

Cobblebank has allowance for two express lines to the south of the station, see Cobblebank, which has been questioned and answered already on this thread some pages back.
The question about Rockbank has also been raised (I think I did actually) and, although the information is nowhere as definite on the same website, the point was made that little is being built south of the station which would line up with the Cobblebank plans

Signal commissionings are renown for going wrong, and not just in Victoria!
I witnessed a signal project engineer and project manager (both highly experienced) discussing commissioning progress, they couldn't believe how smoothly testing had been completed. They then agreed to 'cut in' about 6 hours early; and, it worked, perfectly!
That is not normal...

The extra tracks when quadded beyond Robinsons Rd  Junction to both Black Forest Rd & Melton will be express VLP tracks with no platforms between  Deer Park and  Black Forest Rd &  Melton . ON Wve leg extra tarck pair goes on Up side & on the Melton leg on the Down side .
