I am not fond of Asia, now only stop over for 1 or 2 nights in Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong or (mainly) Dubai on the way to Europe.I cannot fly right through in one go. I moved from Sydney to Dunedin because I hate the heat and I cannot eat most Asian food.
However way back in 1974, I travelled overnight from Jaipur to Delhi because on the way down by bus the Monsoon had started and I saw buses on their sides. Someone from the hotel took me to the station where he arranged a porter to get me a ticket, telling me not to pay until I was in my seat. It was explained to me that the porter bribed the station master to get me my ticket. They were all shouting. I was also warned to sleep with my camera case under my head. Finally the next morning one of my fellow passengers offered to take me to his home by taxi, explaining how much longer the train would take although we could see Delhi in the distance. I had been told not to go with strangers but thought, why not? and he gave me a nice breakfast at this home. He was the one who explained how I had got a ticket. It was an experience but I guess things are better now.
