Saw a Comeng Driving Trailer by itself near the front of FMC. I don’t know which car or which set it was from but it is pretty unusual. Next to it were 2 other S Sets. One with a Goninan leading and another with a Comeng.
  C3765 Train Controller

The driving trailer car is still there at the front of FMC. I still couldn’t see the car number as it was right next to a K Set but I did manage to determine that it is just a standard driving trailer car. It is not a part of the T4011-T4020 cars as it had a guards door. It is also not T4002 or T4003 as it did not have any guard lights on the side or headlights on the front.

It is likely T4050 from S69 as S69 May have been withdrawn from service. This may have been the reason why S69 and S67 were broken up and why I haven’t seen it in service ever since.

It could also be T4076 from S103 which is the last Series 3 (T4071-T4095 and C3741-C3765) Driving Trailer Car which has been converted and stripped of its controls.

If not T4050 or T4076, it could be T4030 from S61 or T4048 from S53.

It is definitely not T4028 in S113, T4032 in S145, T4039 in S97, T4046 in S135, T4056 in S113, T4057 in S97, T4062 in S145 or T4064 in S2 as they were in service today or past few days.

S113 and S103 are now separate. S113 is running Olympic Park shuttles today.

S100 and S28 are back together but this time the C3016 end of the S100 is coupled to C3748 of S28. I think. I just saw a video of the pair which was uploaded 3 hours ago.

It has been like that since February. Before that when S28 and S100 were paired together, it was end Comeng motor car C3976 of S28 coupled to Comeng motor car C3891.

Just realised that trailer car 4049 of S123 has been replaced by trailer car 4926 of S92. Observed it at Lidcombe station on the Olympic Sprint platform.
  C3765 Train Controller

Thank you very much for that info S100S28! It all makes sense now and it reveals so much. T4049 from S123 must be the driving trailer carriage at the front of FMC. The change of consist also reveals why S123 was out of service for a week. The fact that T4926 was moved from S92 to S123 indicates that it probably is one of the significant carriages they are preserving and that S123 will now be part of the 6 Sets. I’m pretty sure T4922 will also be preserved as well because they will need one (most likely T4926) to be on display in a museum while the other (T4922) is part of a heritage set. Also as T4002 is part of S123, T4002 will probably be preserved instead of T4003 in S135 unless they are keeping both.

Standby Sets:

S2, S56, S64, S67, S104 and S123. And maybe S28 if 6 8-Car sets are retained.

I think they might be retaining 12 because unless they do some more shuffling, they won’t be able to retain all the heritage carriages (E.g T4101 S28, T4013 S100). Also when 7 news reports about trains they usually mean an 8-Car train so when they first reported about the standby sets, they could’ve meant 6 8-Car sets. I guess time will tell.

Wednesday, April 3, Evening Peak: Sets S67/69 working Roster 29, and set S123 working Roster L1.
  C3765 Train Controller

Today I saw both S100 and S28 with my own eyes. S100 was paired with S113 on run 14 while S28 was stored at the back of FMC. Carriage C3748 facing towards the city and Flemington station and carriage C3976 facing Lidcombe.

Edit: Noticed C3891 of S100 with a new target plate

Edit 2: C3016 is leading again. Couldn’t see if C3016 had a new plate as well.

Edit 3: S100 will probably be retained too (why else would you give it a new target plate?)

Were any other series 1 carriages saved apart from 3805, 3814 and 3840? Or was that it?

C3888

I think that's it, all the rest were scrapped. These were all withdrawn mostly in 2012 - 2013, with the very last in January 2014 and were entirely replaced with the introduction of the Waratah Series 1 A Sets.

From what I understand C3814 was initially chosen because it was withdrawn around mid/late 2012 and C3805 continued in service until around mid/late 2013 and it wasn't certain whether it would be possible to retain C3805. I'm guessing one day C3805 will probably be re-activated and restored for heritage service, not sure about C3814 - although if it is not, hopefully they won't scrap it as it is only 1 of 2 preserved and these were a little bit more unique compared to the rest of the S set cars with the perforated rear ends and less fluting - which allowed them to be painted and "blend in" more with the Tulloch Double Deck trailers they were initially matched with.

I doubt C3840 will be preserved, not sure if it's been modified while at the Petersham Training College or what electro/mechanical parts it still retains. Based on what I've read of the H.E.T. web site it seems they got a bunch of missing parts that were required for the 3 S set cars in their care. With all the S sets that are being scrapped, should provide a very ample supply of all kinds of spare parts.
  C3765 Train Controller

C3814 and C3840 are the ONLY suburban carriages in existance left with the CityRail logos and CityRail era stickers. All trains in service now have the new Sydney Trains logos and stickers. The trains before the S Sets did not receive these. The only other carriages left with these are a couple of V Set carriages at Auburn.

On the other thread, he stated that Roster 82 was operated by B20, so you must be confusing it for another run.

From tomorrow we are down to 6 S Set Rosters.

Runs: 14(8S), 17(8S), 23(4S), 24(4S), L1(4S/8S) and L2(4S/8S).

Run 18 is now a K Set roster. The K Set has been displaced from Roster 36 which has been taken over by a B Set.

Run 14 should be next to become a K Set or C Set roster.

There are currently 18 sets left and only 8-10 sets are required for the current timetable so I assume another 2-3 sets may be withdrawn soon.

It is possible that they are both correct. An 8-Car S Set could have been operating the run in the morning and at some point in the day they could’ve had a change over and transferred passengers to B20 to continue the run for the rest of the day. T4122 is in S65 so it was probably S65/S56.

Yeh it would seem you are right. Run 82 becomes a B set roster later that day.
