India has a billion people. Do you really think our old double deckers will solve that problem. India have a broad gauge network wider then even melbourne has at 1676mm. So it makes no sense whatsoever to use our old rolling stock.

Without the pantos, they can glue chairs on the roof and have a lower middle, upper and alfresco level. Of course the chairs can be glued down facing backwards, maybe.

It would be cheaper for india to build such a carriage then have to deal with our old rolling stock. There trains are wider with a wider gauge and so why not build a wider double deck carriage instead that could move more people then our old stuff could ever do.

One thing to note as per the previous PDF i posted Sydney Trains has awarded a contract to John Holland for work in the Mt. Victoria area, so it seems to be it's own contract.
Also interesting to note that all stations from Faulconbridge to Leura inclusive, apart from Lawson, are to be completed by/on 30 December 2019. Lawson will get the additional late February/early March 2020 work session as well although perhaps the platform coping, track slewing works may be completed during the 2019 work sessions. If this were to be the case, depending on procedure, etc, I wonder if they'll run test trains in early 2020 as far as Leura to see how the wider trains go for that section or whether they'll wait till they get the whole lot done after the sessions ending 06 March 2020 and start test trains after that date. I assume the test trains will be NIF's, unless they decide to use some 4-car Oscar sets.

I am going to raise this again, could we have bought this train (instead of the junk we are getting) and raised the level of the entry doors with a middle deck as a modification? Surely we could have asked for mods or engineered them ourselves.

In addition to having the doors in the wrong place, DB double deck stock would too wide for use here, too tall for use here, use the wrong electrical system and use the wrong signalling systems. Pretty well everything about them is wrong!
If the loading gauges here were large enough to take European designs, a better starting point would be Dutch double deck designs which are already built for high level platforms and DC electrification.

Those were not sold. They were given to the NSW police academy for training. The V sets will become scrap metal since just like the S sets they are not able to be used as housing.

Some new updates to works on the Springwood to Lithgow rail corridor. There will be works done between 02 September 2019 to 13 September 2019. PDF files with info on works done on particular stations along this route under "Project News"

Also some work within the 10 tunnels with rock bolt installation, etc. It will be interesting if after this lot of work there will be anything noticeable in terms of the track alignments/widths. There will be several more big work sessions along this route although it is scheduled to be commissioned to support wider trains by around June 2020. Given the news to the delays with the New Intercity Fleet, this work may well be finished before they are ready to start using the new trains in earnest.

Luggage racks in the lower deck means that everything has to dragged up and down steps.
Why not transverse seats in the ends with overhead racks, the space is available.
I look forward to the second generation cars with reverible seats after the public outcry.

More hideous than I thought possible. These suburban trains should be fitted with more tangara seats and assigned to suburban duties where they belong and are needed.
Agree: Oscars with fewer seats, not a proper inter urban solution like the v-sets.
The CAF order should be expanded to provide both interurban and regional duties.

There will be up to 10 carriages per train to make up this shortfall in seats per carriage.
The Oscars are a suburban train parading as an intercity train and while the disability access is not better then the H sets they are significantly better then V sets in this regard.
The seating looks way better then the suburban T sets. The Ex G sets on the other hand are the most comfortable seat on the network. We will have to wait and see how good or bad they are.
Luggage over head is a bad idea as tall people hit there heads on them constantly. While it might be a pain to drag the luggage up and down the stairs at least you can keep an eye on your luggage unlike if it was up in the vestibule.

I have good news for any V Set lovers out there!I know this is a while ago, but you'd need to jump from the Indian platform to reach the V-set.
The V Sets May have a brighter future than what the S Sets have had to face thanks to their aircon, comfort and less hate from the public. After the new D Sets arrive and the V Sets begin to be retired, instead of being sent to a scrap yard or becoming a house, they may be able to remain in service for another 10-15 years! Although not all of them can be saved, a lucky few may be able to start a new life, journey to new destinations and potentially get a new livery before they are retired. All of this can happen when they are sent to... India! According to a volunteer at the 2018 heritage expo, there are talks about transferring the V Sets overseas to India where they will serve lines there. Many trains from other countries have been transferred similarly, so it could indeed happen.

I agree with RTT. The V sets aren't going to be making the trip to India. Melbourne's rolling stock has way more chance then anything from Sydney. Don't hold your breath for them to be used for housing either.

- The Car Numbers for the Driving cars will be DDA9301 and onwards (DDA9302, etc...)
- The PIDs on the side of the train will display the crowdedness of carriages similar to the ones they display on platform displays with the A & B Set cars instead of the destination as previously illustrated.
- A look at the bicycle racks
- A look at the toilets
- Also both the exterior and interior seems to have more black/dark grey.

Maybe. There is legacy asbestos used in many applications still today, roofing if often one. However as long as its not touched and locked away its often deemed safe. However I suspect the V-sets were built too late to get asbestos, well at least the bulk of the active fleet anyway.
