    I don;t get why they are being scrapped and not just auctioned?
    PN has a policy of Scrap rather than sell to potential Opposition. Man they were scared of El Zorro. If it is sold/donated to preservation groups, its clapped out and is overpriced from what I've heard. Largely because they don't to opposition to there homogeny
    If that's their policy, I wonder how SSR came to acquire those redundant Leigh Creek wagons.

    Maybe there just isn't much of a market for a bunch of old diesel locos that have worked well past their designed life-span.


    I know it's been said before, but Pacific National have the right to do whatever they want with their property. Clapped out 40+ year old locomotives aren't much value to anyone save for a few sad gunzels.

    That is just reality.

    Pacific National wouldn't likely see Regional Connect as a competitor.

    In fact, they work together, with Pacific National's Melbourne to Griffith service hauling containers for Regional Connect.

    Come on PN- lets get to scrapping all the 3rd series X stored at Werris Creek, AND whatever you have in service still....
    Even better - send them to the Melbourne Freight terminal, and rub our noses in it...............

    A T, 2 Xs and S306 are going to preservation groups. I don't know which particualr engines though. From what I hear there's a very strict "don't hire to our opposition" contract.

    The privatisation process way back when should have had a better rollingstock disposal condition.

    Eg if no use in 5 years, to be auctioned openly with no minimum reserve.  EDIT: Scrapping not permitted.

    Also, 'no use' could be defined as less than x% utilisation (maybe 10%?) to stop them from running once every 5 years on a revenue service

    That would have made PN use them more....

    Pacific National have been scrapping A class (below left) and X class locomotives to free up yard space to accommodate V/Locitys. New provisions will be provided to accommodate train crews. Management intend to place a yard foreman and shunters at Sth Dynon to coordinate the movements in and out of the yard. Currently there is no fuelling of V/Locitys or Sprinter Rail cars at Sth Dynon and Management plan to modify the Y class road for V/Locitys for fuelling. Washing windscreens and windows will be completed in the dual gauge wash road. The Footscray end of the yard does not currently hold a six car V/Locity set and would be required to be extended by 35 metres. The Footscray end of the maintenance shed will require pathways and lighting to accommodate stabling of V/Locitys.
